Sorry, I didn't mean drivers. It is MIDI 2.0 class compliant AFAIK.

What I meant is the Erae LAb which is indeed needed for using all the features it provides, and it is closed source AFAIK. Not as good Linn, although a possible compromise for those how can't afford a Linn.

But I fully agree that completely open source technology is the golden standard.

Unfortunately the piano/keyboard is no longer efficient for my musical progression, and due to my security practices, I can only use equipment that works with Linux and does not require proprietary software/drivers to operate and/or update it.

Class-compliant USB-MIDI drivers don't only benefit Linux desktop users: they also mean things are more likely to survive major OS updates and work with non-PC USB host devices such as patchbays, hardware sequencers and USB-DIN interfaces.

How well that all translates to USB 2.0 I'm not sure, yet.

I've been adding info about this on another thread but this is probably a better place for that info, so here it is, reproduced below -

I was playing with the Lumi Keys and Equator, first time trying it for MPE, and it's really, really good. The coloured lights are great for helping you with the right playing style to get the most from the five dimensions of touch. e.g. I realised that if I don't want to trigger Aftertouch, I don't hit the keys fast enough, which affects velocity. With a few minutes practice, I improved my technique so I can hit the keys hard enough to get full velocity without crunching them into the deck and triggering aftertouch. The aftertouch light colour also gets progressively more saturated, which helps with being subtle with aftertouch, too. The deeper I go, the better it gets. Honestly, it's like a cut-price Osmose.

It feels as solid as any of my other MIDI controllers. I don't hesitate to stuff it into my sling bag with the Legion Go, even though it's a tight fit, to take it to band practice. There's no flex in it or anything like that. I've read some horror stories about the early Kickstarter units but they seemed to get over that with later batches.

You can attach up to four Lumi Keys/Piano Ms and they appear as a single device to your system. My studio config is one Piano M, a Lightpad Block M and a Loop Block and the whole thing works as a single device - turn one on/off and they all turn on or off. When they first released Lumi Keys, my interest was in connecting one to my Seaboard Block but, sadly, my Seaboard Block fell to pieces before Roli finally got around to offering Lumi Keys/Piano M in Australia. Now that I have the Lumi, I think it probably would have made the Seaboard redundant anyway.

I think I'll buy the Lightpad Pro to use as a toe controller (XYZ pad starting from the bottom left corner, maybe also with a slider on the right edge or a few clip launchers or some MPE percussion). Here's hoping it gets released soon.

A bigger Lightpad might be very tempting if I didn't already have six normal sized ones, although the software seems a lot more advanced. A bigger Lumi Keys, not so much. The current one is perfect for my needs. I wonder if anyone has bought their Airwave? It's great to see Roli bouncing back so strongly.

Would prefer an Osmose but too expensive and pretty bulky, whereas the Roli Piano is nice and slim.

an Osmose like keyboard for that price would be nice....

but Roli Piano delivers enough for me. it will not always be in MPE mode. that is the main use, actually. poly AT... that is nice.

and my 2 Seabord blocks and lightpad M blocks ánd a Push 3 ánd a Erae Touch 2, well enough expressive possibilties.

yes, the Airwave... i curious: will it give something extra or is it a ginmick. i believe it can be an addition, that's why i bought the bundle, with early early bird discount...

Airwave tracks individual finger joints in relation to the keys, and support confirmed that they're planning to eventually integrate that with MPE, though they haven't provided a timeframe. It could allow them to add MPE Slide and across-key Glide to Roli Piano, as well as Glide over the keyboard for the Seaboard (so you could glide very smoothly across multiple keywaves without using the flat area at bottom or top, and also have one hand glide over the other) and possibly continuous Lift/inverse pressure, among other possibilities.
