I worked for a chain of music store "Daddy's Junky Music" , they have around 15 stores in New York and New England. A lot of their business is used gear, we all bought as much as we sold (but we got a piece of anything we bought when it sold). When you took in a trade or bought a piece you would enter it into the computer and it would be in their montlhy catalog of used gear that's mailed out. Plus of course it was available to any of the Daddy's stores. When we listed a strat style guitar that was not Fender we had to call it "S-type". Fender took action against the store for things like "used Ibanez Strat" for trademark infringement.

To me that seems like a more reasonable example of a company defending itself against trademark dilution, compared to the Monster stories.

uh c'mon Fender has been famous for this for years, in the 80's a company importing strat copies were told by customs they had to cut the headstocks off because Fender new they were coming...I bet you in trademark suits in the music industry fender is in the top three.

i agree, it's one thing when the name you're defending wasn't a common term in the language before you named your product. it's not like people were talking about stratocasters and strats 200 years ago. kind of like xerox fighting battles for their name after "xerox" became synonymous with "photocopy".

wow. what bullshit. i suppose he is counting on at least 2/3 of the people who have seen the bad publicity are not going to bother looking at the evidence. and if you look at the wording of the letter it is very clever in that there are omissions disguised as corrections. i think that the lawyer that wrote it for him should think about a carreer in politics; he is obviously very smart.

bush's tort reform only goes one way. it is not designed to protect you from corporations. it is designed to protect corporations from you. and it is put together in a way that would allow some slippery-slope legal manouvering in the area of what defines 'frivolous'. let's say that halliburton wants to start burning priests and blind orphans as cheap fuel to fire a power plant that powers a ballistic missile factory .... er, theoretically speaking of course... and you decide to sue them for trying to set it up in a wildlife refuge for baby seals and all things cute. bush wants the corporation to be able to argue that your suit is frivolous, and then have you killed. ok, not killed, but certainly fined.

I realize that you are blinded by idealogical hate, but you should at least do your homework before you make incorrect statements as if they were fact. The legislation would apply to any frivolous lawsuits brought by anyone. Corporations and individuals would both be protected as they should be.

As far as cutting your cables, why? You already paid for them. You could get new ones for life and that would cost Monster Cable far more than what you are doing now. I am all for Boycotting against companies/artists/countries that do things against everyone's better interests, but cutting up a cable you are guaranteed to have for life is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. I probably own 30-40 Monster cables and have for probably 15 years. I never have to buy new cables. I just keep getting new free ones. Someone like me costs them more staying with their cables than switching to something else.

I totally agree that many of their lawsuits are Bullshit. Just as stupid and bad as the woman who sued Mcdonalds for having hot coffee, but you have to change the laws so that things like this can't happen.

Problem is, lots of Ambulance chasing Lawyers have made a fortune with crap like this and contribute a lot of money to Democrats to keep the laws the way they like them.

i just want to point out that saying george bush is going to stick it to large corporations is like saying satan is going to be reborn as a friendly hippy who helps and cares for orphans and the elderly. it's just proven to not be true. the man obviously has his own agenda, and that agenda has nothing to do with the american people whatsoever, i.e. "we're doing great in iraq!" but we're not, "i totally care about the environment" followed by the re-elected president giving the OK to drill for oil in alaska's national parks and such. or the thing i always loved "my tax cuts for people bringing in over $200,000 a year are designed to help small businesses!" except that i've never heard of a SMALL business owner that makes over $200,000 a year. you're doing real f**king well for yourself if your SMALL business is bringing in that much. so do your own research about the man who's supposed to fix all our problems, the one that went to f**king YALE and speaks english not even half as well as most rappers. it's not about democrats, it's not about republicans, it's about greedy soulless f**ks with too much power taking advantage of people with not enough money to fight back.

I never said anybody was going to stick it to anybody. Just that the proposed legislation would make things better for both the average person AND the corporations. Only losers are unscrupolous trial laywers and people who make a living off suing others.

$200,000 is certainly a small business compared to multi million and multi billion dollar businesses. These people employ others and by the way, it's not a crime to do well for yourself.

The tax cuts helped my family immensely and we are not close to $200,000.

Anyway, getting back to Monster cable, if you hate them, use the crap out any MCs you may own and keep getting new ones. That way YOU win. You get your money's worth.
