I know. Everyone says Accusonus Regroover (I think it was called) was the best at it. Gone now. You'd think if AI can shred a song into parts it could separate a bass, a bell and a stick, but it can't.kelvyn wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:12 pmJust out… Stem separation just for drums ReBeat from WaveMachine Labs. Unfortunately it costs $199 which is waaaaaayyyyyy too expensive. Shame!osiris wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:00 pm Yes but it still can't separate a simple drum loop. I know because I tried at least 6 different stem separators yesterday.
Stem separation in software is the Mark Of The Beast

t'wasn't a 'mashup' but I saw something appalling recently kind of in the same vein. Someone had made an AI do a generic 70s funk version of Zappa's More Trouble Every Day, which had nothing to do with the original except the words, and it was mediocre even for generic. like the only point was to do it, and WHY would you

this is a whole genre now with apparently broad appeal...one of the most popular is taking current top 40 hip hop / r&b and having AI do generic 50s rock/doo wop or 60s Motown versions...millions of views and subscribers for dozens of creatorsjancivil wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 12:43 am t'wasn't a 'mashup' but I saw something appalling recently kind of in the same vein. you can do manually with tools like melodyne or hitnmix...rebeat doesn't surprise me they were half way there 20 yrs ago with drumgagog...never understood why they never get brought up with the other replacers...especially with the excitement for snapback cause you could have already been doing a lot of thatkelvyn wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:12 pmJust out… Stem separation just for drums ReBeat from WaveMachine Labs. I find all that do a song in a different style stuff to quite a lot of fun. When we were teenagers one of my mates used to do c&w covers of Metallica when we got back from the pub.
If you need to use AI to do it, fine: it's mainly just an amusing joke.
That lounge cover of Light My Fire from the 60s got there first, so there is a bit of a history.
There was that thing a while back of covering big tunes in the style of an indie band; the ones that ended up on a 1000 adverts for coffee machines and accountancy software. Those were horrible.
Anyways, Jay-Z as sung by the Beach Boys ( never realised how utterly awful the lyrics were)

interesting rendition, even though i prefer the original. the mix sounds kinda wierd with the vocals too far up front. but as jazz swing it almost works. i could live without the lead vocalist though.

If it's used as a shortcut or the basis of creating songs, I totally agree. It becomes a corporate product.

Now that's creative! As I've read it, that album involved a lot more effort than feeding a prompt to an existing website and leech the empty product.Bunny_boy wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 4:24 amHowever:

Oh totally. This is a full-on, design-your-own creative partner. It is, however, AI - probably more so than the chat gpt style websites.BertKoor wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 7:36 amNow that's creative! And of course there is a lot of artistic effort and intent, as opposed to blandly creating music for consumption.
I suppose the production of bland music just for corporate consumption is nothing new - I'm having flashbacks to Jive Bunny. I guess the ease - and therefore the scale - is the new thing.

a distinction I'll make is that PROTO is not 'music by AI', it's music that leverages AI in the same quality as very proactive generative electronic music. use the tool, don't be the tool of a tool.

Don't be a tool is probably a good way to livejancivil wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 5:02 pm a distinction I'll make is that PROTO is not 'music by AI', it's music that leverages AI in the same quality as very proactive generative electronic music. use the tool, don't be the tool of a tool.
