I agree with your statement. And unfortunately, this is not only in the software area.Lerian wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 8:57 amNot really. You pay at least 2.5 times and there are issues in there too. Also much fewer options when it comes to software, and every little piece of utility costs another $20 to $200 - things that on windows are either open source or freeware.
What we need is a change in philosophy+attitude, as tech companies are not responsible for anything these days, they use and abuse their users as they please with no consequences because monopoly/oligopoly. And the users unfortunately suffer from fanboyism and the stockholm syndrome![]()

To be honest I would run linux if Cubase and plugins and RME Total mix was native linux.
Bitwig is already native linux which is the other daw I use.
Btw, Copilot Recall is NOT installed with Win 242h2 if you dont have a "Copilot PC"..

I think the mac studio is pretty competitive actually, and have been thinking of buying one for a while. Just haven't done it. Mostly, I am just annoyed at having to actively prevent this update from installing itself onto my win 11 comp. Of course, as an old Unix guy, who started out working on Cray and IBM super computers 35 yrs ago, I do actually believe the windows platform to be pathetic in many ways, sry...Lerian wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 8:57 amNot really. Yes, depending on what you do, a mac can do a good job. Mac Studio looks a bit overpowered for music tho. I use both pc and mac, as in the laptop market nothing comes even close (not even in the same book) to apple macbook pro. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses, with macs having a bit fewer, but you have to pay at least double (diminishing returns). And this is only for the hardware, the software is another story.

Unfortunately, is not. Every product now wants to become "as a service", most of them offering terrible services at high cost, and even ownership for old products is put into question. Also we allowed the <drug dealer / casino slot machine> social networks takeover all aspects of our social lives ( I recommend the full series - 8 episodes, you can find it on spotify).music3tone wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:37 am I agree with your statement. And the only one public person that seems to care about it, is . Everyone else seems to be on zombie mode.

Why tf people upgrade immediately to latest offering? If its about security, most of them are available for the previous useable version. Also if using Home version, that is already a huge problem.

How can I make sure my PC isn't a "Copilot PC", and is there an easy way to check after updating to 24H2 that it Copilot + recall is completely disabled/absent?Freaqpeak wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:52 amBtw, Copilot Recall is NOT installed with Win 242h2 if you dont have a "Copilot PC"..
I _really_ don't want such a feature enabled.

Cubase 13 Pro and MuseScore studio are working. I trialed Magix Music Maker because it is on offer at APD but didn’t bother as it was to basic for my needs. Magix Independence 3.5 still doesn’t work so no change there and their customer support also blames the customer even though they know which programme is blocking the installation.
What I don’t like about Windows 10 and 11 is when you get a message that says “this update will remove some programmes to make way for updates but don’t worry we will reinstall them again afterwards” and you find out that Cubase is broken and all of your vstis are missing. Normally if an update breaks the software I reinstall to see if that fixes the issue.
I take issue with the way you have spoken to people on here.

What you should have done is linked the cases you found on the internet so that the others here could make their own minds up on as to what is going on.
As I said earlier I do not want a reply from you.

However I don’t need a reply from you if you are going to be this rude to other members. They were only trying to help.If you want to message me I can help teach you how to use computers and the Internet.

I'm on the Insider Program and I've been on 24H2 since last October and it's been perfectly fine, not so much as the tiniest problem.

Because it's easier and it's never, ever a problem. What I don't understand is why the f**k you wouldn't. By the time it's RTM, 10+ million Insiders have already tested it and found any issues, which have been fixed. What other software has 10+ million beta-testers?
If you're worried about the state of Windows updates, do something about it and join the Insider Program; be part of the solution.

It seems to be a problem for some people in audio production atm. Also on the Apple side the updates have had problems with audio too. So I would not say _never_ here...

If you're a developer, it makes sense to be an early adopter... so you can find/resolve issues.
If you're an end-user, it makes sense to be a later adopter... so devs can find/resolve issues before you encounter them.
Many updates install without issues.
That said, if you're in more of a mission-critical (Professional) environment, it doesn't make sense to take unnecessary chance/risk.
Obviously, you want to have a backup (prior to installing a major update).
If you're in the middle of a large project, that's not the time to update.
Update during down time.
With proper preparation, you won't be caught in a mess.
An old friend's dad used to say, "Prior planning prevents piss-poor performance."
