I also noticed (when I checked version) that my perpetual licence has a 'valid until' date now- I assume that the date my free updates stop?
there is a small search tab in the installation thing in presonus. search light and it will show up. its under presonus - cinematic lights or something. the soundset itself is failing to download on my computer and it has no sounds without the soundset and it won't let you try to install the soundset after the rompler is installed.

also why do they keep making rompler as separate synths? why do they not put this all in one rompler? are they trying to act like they have more synths then they do? its basically a new preset pack from nexus.
Cheers- still not showing up for me- on the website it says it should be installed with 7.1...maybe its not quite ready yet! No biggy- never used their other romplers and probably never use this either, just curious as not much else to look at in this 'update'
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I generally really like Studio one, but this new direction of theirs - I really dunno. A Native Instruments alike sample based preset synth is the main attraction of the first 'major update'. Oh and there's some 'workflow improvements'.
I'm just not excited by this at all.
I'm old enough to have seen this sort of thing play out many times before in multiple industries. Gets bought by a new investor/owner. New annual payments schemes introduced. Updates become meh. Many users evenutally move on and the software just dies a slow death. I'm happy to keep using it for now but I hope things improve.
I have a Bitwig licence and I'm happy to renew that when I see some usefull updates but the Bitwig updates are generally pretty solid. I just feel like passing off a preset synth as a major update is a cheap corporate move and a sign of things to come.

You have to „claim“ it under the additional content in your my.presonus.com account first.

And to those who are constantly complaining: you can do the big “Told you so” reckoning on December 31st.

All I see here is automation still hasn’t been improved. I’m not looking for more bloat.

It's a separate download under 'Studio One > Studio One Installation...' then search for 'Cinematic Lights'.

Also, don't forget these aren't free updates. People paid a premium for these shortcut keys, menu items, and sample libraries.

Enjoy what? Cinematic Lights?

Didn't say you had to like it - only that it is available.

Cinematic Lights is actually cool, not sure the package of updates released would be classified as "major" for 1 of the 4 major updates a year, although the bug fixes and other QoL additions are welcome, will wait and see what the next round brings, hopefully it will be more fleshed out

Well - considering that v7.0.2 update had exactly two changes - this one feels like a brand new major version release. TONs of fixes in the release notes.

Hard to believe given the mature code base that this thing is built on - that this much stuff can get busted during development cycles.

Well, their CLAP support, for one, was really dodgy, and that's all new code. It's much improved now. But the CLAP version of Surge XT still insta-crashes S1, at least on Mac.

I've been holding off upgrading to v7 until they add a feature which is of some use to me.

Still waiting.

Nothing, literally nothing of interest here. I really hope that they've been disappointed by v7 sales and upgrades so they take a long hard look at themselves and change direction.

Lest we forget :

Frequent Updates: Instead of major updates every two years, users will get 3-4 major feature releases annually.

I reckon that new instrument would cost $200+ if it was from NI, Wave Alchemy or Heavyocity. It seems like a HUGE update, all on its own.
SeeingInMidi wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 3:37 pmi don't know if it's just me, but i'd rather them create more effects than virtual instruments... but even if they do release a virtual instrument, a multisampled instrument feels low effort. but that just might be me.
It's all very definitely just you. Does anyone use on-board effects in any DAW? And the new instrument is something I'd be all over if I hadn't already spent $400-$500 on other sample libraries.

Did you even take a f**king look at it? It is a fully programmable synth with features that at least match any $200 VSTi you'd care to name. Coming out with shit like that, without having looked at the thing, just makes you look like a complete f**king moron.

That's because it is still relatively new, whereas Studio One is a very mature product. The problem with subscription is that they clearly work or all the biggest software companies in the world would have gone broke by now. Adobe, for example, have been subscription-only for 15 years or more now and it hasn't hurt them. Autodesk 3DS Max, which would be at least as complex as any DAW, is Au$2,800 per year, when it used to only cost Au$5,000 up front and Au$200 a year for upgrades. And it remains the no.1 best selling product in its market. At least Presonus still give you a perpetual license, Photoshop stops working 14 days after my subscription lapses.

I've had consistent issues with songs crashing Studio One when I close a project for 5 f**king years and they have done nothing to fix it, beyond blaming plugin developers. When those plugins perform flawlessly on every other host, it's hard to see that it's the plugin's fault.

Like what? I just want it to be stable, in every other way it is head and shoulders better than any other DAW I have looked at.

The problem is the people making the decisions are probably not the same people who were making decisions prior to the Fender merger.

It probably isn't even the same department. I suspect Studio One's development roadmap used to be controlled by PreSonus's software development team, and since has been taken over by Fender's marketing department.

At least there's a demo to try now.
