BONES wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 10:14 pm The problem with that is you end up making just another DAW, like al the other DAWs out there. What you want is an application that is interesting for YOU, that solves problems you have with other DAWs.
But that's the thing with the OP. He doesn't solve any problem he really had with other DAWs.
Why do you think that???
I of course solve a lot of problems, which I have with other DAWs. But it seemed not to be important to me to mention them here. The point of this thread is to find out, what users want additionally to what I want.

By the way, some of you were talking here about an "intuitive" UI. Please continue that discussion. Its very interesting to me.
SamDi wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:09 pm If he would have said, it should be extremely light-weight and fast and easy and intuitive to use, I still wouldn't think it's a special thing, but at least it would make more sense and go in a direction to "solve a problem with other DAWs".
Again, I think I also said that already several times. I even changed the wording on my page to "streamlined and light-weight".
I do not contradict or argue against this marketing Unique Selling Point (USP)-topic, you might be right on that for many people/products.
But for me honestly, when using a DAW or any other product, it makes no difference, whether there is the "one" USP or not. Cause often some products have such a USP, but on other things they do not offer enough and so often I end up not choosing that product with the USP at all.
I would not have started my own project, when I would have been satisfied with the DAWs I used before. And I tested many of them. But of course I will not go into details about those products, cause I'm not gonna compare or judge any product here, cause others can do that much better. I actually really like to consume those videos/discussions, especially before doing a decision what to buy.
Everyone has his own preferences and there's no "global" agreement among all DAW-users, and I have my clear understanding, how I want to have it, but once again: I also want to include opinions of others of intuitiveness, to be able to provide something many would like to use. I want to use my own DAW to make music and if others find it useful its gonna be a product. More about that on my website https://sites.google.com/view/virtualdaw. I post the link again, cause last time someone claimed, it would be not a good customer support to only point to my profile.

The only new thing I recently added there, was the "Free Plugins" section.
So maybe my messaging was not the best.

When I will have some first-versions of my UI, I will post screenshots / videos of them here in a few weeks/months. If you want to know that in advance you can request a BETA-Tester invite. Simply go to my website and check for the contact informatio related to BETA-Testers.

Efficiency means lower CPU use, less scrolling around, less opening and closing of windows, etc. Those things can take no time at all with keyboard shortcuts but they are still complications that can make it much harder to finish things. You can also spend a lot of time making a project, or even a workflow, more efficient.

A good example might be a DAW with built-in EQ on every mixer channel. It makes it faster to EQ channels but it is quite inefficient if you don't use much EQ, because it takes up space on your GUI for no benefit.

The most rudimentary I can think of and resembles what I read in OP.
Not exactly rudimentary, though, it's got stem separation built in, an arranger track and really good lyrics display capabilities. I'd describe it more as "streamlined". Nothing seems duplicated, the GUI isn't crowded or intimidating but everything you need is there. I think I might be able to put up with the lack of a proper mixer for something as slick as this seems to be. The only problem is that I need a subscription before I can save projects. I thought Cakewalk was free?

EDIT: I've been playing around with it for an hour or so now and I'm actually quite impressed. So far it seems like it will do everything I need it to. Moving songs across to a new platform will be a massive undertaking - if it takes 30 minutes of prep to export a song, saving patches and exporting MIDI, and 90 minutes to get it up and running on the new platform, I'll be looking at a minimum of 300 hours of thankless work - but it might be worth the effort and I can do it a bit at a time. If I get into it and find out it's not really working, I can cancel my subscription and go back to Studio One, so it's not much of a financial risk, either.
