Why some people said iLok is evil? There are many company using iLok, such as Xils-lab, Eventide, Air Music..., but I have no problem of all of them. But this complaint seems to often come only on Falcon thread.

If you have problem on Falcon iLok, please share detailed Individual cases. It might help many users.

Same here.
Probably comes from older musicians who remember issues with iLok decades ago that caused problems. Cross platform mostly, but from what I can tell the Windows users especially could have real issues with the PACE iLok extensions that left a sour taste in their mouths all these years later.

I've had next to zero issues with iLok in well over 15 years of use at this point. I think it was Audio Ease Speakerphone at a 60% off sale that broke me, and honestly Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reason etc. all have had dongles.

Air moved away from iLok for their latest MPC compatible plugins, and I've had issues with them, unfortunately they seem to call home, which to me is a far more damaging way of copy protection than iLok.

UVI are a company whose plugins I always avoid, due to their reliance upon iLok.

And even though, Image-Line gifted me a free (NFR) 2 year subscription to their FL Cloud Pro service, I still have not downloaded a single UVI plugin from it.

Even though Image-Line claim that many UVI plugins available through FL Cloud Pro don't require iLok, I have learned never to trust any software which was once iLok-only and subsequently claims not to be. Sonible plugins being one prime reason why.

Even though Sonible claim their plugins no longer require iLok, when you check deeper through their FAQs, you find that they reveal many Windows PC users will still need to install iLok licence manager to prevent serious "slow loading" issues. Which was exactly what I myself experienced when using them on Windows and which their own Customer support confirmed as being a known issue, to which the only available workaround was to install iLok Licence Manager after all (for "so-called" iLok-less versions of their plugins.)

Other developers who also for a period offered non-iLok versions of their plugins, reverted back to iLok-only later on.

So I don't trust developers like Sonible and I don't trust UVI. I really wish Image-Line had never bought them and instead purchased a different developer who didn't impose iLok DRM.
Ilok is the very reason why I still buy UVI products.
When they go challenge response it's over for me.

It's refreshing to see that I'm not the only one who actually like iLok, especially if you use the HW dongle. Sure, I had one or two issues a couple of years ago, when I registered the iLok licenses to my computer, and once there was an OS upgrade (Windows) which created a new HW-ID for my computer, and all my licenses became inactive. The second time was when installing AIR plugins, and they force installed an old version of iLok, which made Windows bluescreen.

Since moving to the iLok HW dongle, and ZDR (as an insurance), I have had zero issues. I have 239 activated licenses on my HW dongle, I can freely move the dongle between my PC and my Mac, and I NEVER have to deactivate those licenses when re-installing a system and I don't have to, manually, activate every single license on a fresh install. THAT is what I call user friendly.

I've had this for almost a year and never experienced an issue with the UVI stuff even making a peep about iLok. Melda stuff, which is non iLok - yes.
I guess that's why the Falcon demo Presets folder is empty. Makes me sad that the expansions absolutely take iLok, which kept me from getting one. ASAIK you can only get the Expansions that are in the FL Cloud without iLok.

Yep moving all my iLok products to the dongle makes importing to a new computer 1000x easier than any other method, it's the best part of iLok for sure.

I do have an issue on the Mac side with the hardware dongle, but it's a minor annoyance, I have a 15 port hub, and three other hubs attached to the Mac Studio here, and about 20% of the time when I start up the computer it doesn't recognize the iLok. Unplug and plug back in and it works fine. Likely an issue with Mac OS security.

IMO every method besides a simple serial number is a PITA, but iLok doesn't rank high on the list of annoying methods, I've never had one fail though so there's that.

I guess, they're damned if they do support iLok and damned if they don't, then.

Since, for every pro-iLok customer like you, they gain. They lose any anti-iLok customers, like me.

Is there any way to "load as layers" from either the "library" tab when double clicking a part, or the tag-based search pane on the right? I see it's an option when using the "Files" view to navigate soundbanks.

Dear UVI: please add a keyboard modifier when dragging from the library / tag view to "load as layers" the drag-and-dropped program instead of overwriting the current program.

I have hundred of plugin on ilok.
UVI, SSL, Eventide, PSP, Pulsar Audio, LiquidSonic, Softube, Relab are fast to open.
Ony UAD is slow. Probably due to their plug in manager and not ilok.

So stop with saying bullshit.

In my long years on KvR I've finally come to a realisation.

Some people like ilok for good reasons.
Some people don't like ilok for good reasons.

Despite years of patient and eloquent discourse, neither side has managed to convince the other. I'd like us all to take a moment to thank those who have selflessly devoted themselves to this great effort, spending time, research and wearing out their keyboards.

I hope that one day someone will provide an argument that will settle it forever. We can only hope that day will come soon.

From what I can gather, the negative sentiment for iLok is a relic from a previous generation. I have not been in the game long enough to put that sentiment into context. I've yet to find a strong case against being a current generation iLok consumer.
