I am trying to have Co on my MIDI controller keyboard click the Up arrow for browsing through presets in ST2.

I am trying to have D0 on my MIDI controller keyboard click the Down arrow for browsing through presets in St2.

I am trying to have E0 on my MIDI controller load the preset that is currently displayed in the browser of St2.

Currently when I go in the St2 Pref file I show this:

BrowseDown=-1
BrowseLoad=-1
BrowseUp=-1

Ps: This is the way it is set by default. Everything at -1

I did read this in the manual:

BrowseUp= midi note number that’s assigned to the browse UP (notes from 0 to 127, -1 means disabled, Arrow UP, see 3.12)

BrowseDown= midi note number that’s assigned to the browse DOWN (notes from 0 to 127, -1 means disabled, Arrow DOWN, see3.12)

"Arrow UP-DOWN
These 2 arrows (figure 50) allow you to switch between the sounds and automatically load them into the currently selected part. These 2 buttons are by default associated to the midi keys C0 and D0, respectively so that you can select and load sounds from your midi keyboard."

This seems to be incorrect as by default, they are set to -1, which means they are disabled.

"To change this assignment or disable it you will need to manually change
the ST2Pref.txt file (see 3.11)
fig. 50"

What do I have to change the values to please? I tried 0,1,2 just for the hell of it, but that didn't work. Obviously, I don't know what I am doing.. :?

Can you tell me what I have to change the values to?

BrowseDown= ?
BrowseLoad= ?
BrowseUp= ?

I would be most grateful.

Also, while we are at it, can someone explain to me how I can use the PROGRAM CH button to load sounds?

The manual says "Also you can use PROGRAM CH. to load sounds live by sending a simple PROGRAM CH. to SampleTank® 2", but I don't get it. I am not very good with MIDI.. how do I do this using Fl Studio? I use an Alesis Qs6.1 keyboard as my MIDI controller.

Thanks for your help :)

great work pheeleep, i hope you are successful in this idea. for program changes:

PROGRAM CHANGE association
With SampleTank® 2 you can also associate MIDI PC (program change) to
any of the sound. Simply click an instrument on the BROWSER and then
click the PROGRAM CH. button at the top of the list of instruments (figure
44). This will display the MID PC association window (figure 45). Simply
click and drag on the number you see at the side of the instrument name in
this window (from 0 to 127). The N/A value means no association is made.
You will also be able to save the PROGRAM CH. association into a file with
the SAVE MAP button. The LOAD MAP button (figure 46) loads a previously
saved PROGRAM CH. map.
By associating MID Program Change to the instrument you will be able to
produce your own General MIDI set for playing General MIDI file. Also you
can use PROGRAM CH. to load sounds live by sending a simple PROGRAM
CH. to SampleTank® 2.

Hey Pricer.. thanks.. but I read the manual.. lol Hey it's not my idea! I am just asking how to do something the manual says I can do.. :)

It's the last sentence in your paragraph.. it says " you can do this" but I don't know how to, in Fl Studio.. I suck with MIDI.. :(

I just realized doing the program change thing would require two mouse clicks anyway, so i am going to abandon that idea.

I am just trying to figure out a way to change the presets in St2 without double clicking the preset in the St2 browser. I have R.S.I ( hands hurt ) and the less mouse clicking the better, which is why I would like to know how to change the presets using my MIDI keyboard, if that is possible, as the manual states.. I am surprised no one else has it set up like this.. I'll just hope someone answers eventually..

well, i've just played around (never knew this feature existed...i just opened the box up and started playing, heh) but i can't get anything to work either, it just wipes the channel of any patch. :(

Could be a bug or maybe i'm just doing something wrong?!

well i do believe Squids is working on a nifty drawbar organ patch, i could see that this feature could greatly benefit this feature, ie. the bottom octave used for keyswitching drawbar settings. It would be great if the keyswitching feature was introduced more into SR patches, especially between layers - say triggering different aspects of a pad using the bottom octave say?! Or emulating EWQLSO's usage of triggering legato,staccato etc patches through keyswitching.

Though i'm sure if anyone can solve this problem, it's Squids! ;)

Try this:

BrowseDown=26
BrowseLoad=28
BrowseUp=24

This is assuming you call middle C C3 (as SampleTank does). If you don't (or the numbers I've given don't work), try adding or subtracting 12.

Hope that helps.

Hope that helps?

Thank you so much.

YOU ARE SO THE MAN :hail:

Really, I appreciate it. All set up now! :D

It is making it a breeze to browse through presets. One wish for the future ( but I am not complaining as it is! I am so happy ), would be to have the presets start scrolling if you have your finger on the note for a certain amount of time. So if you hit the note at once, it would go down to the next preset ( the way it is right now ), but if you kept your finger on the key for a little longer, it would start scrolling..

I'll submit it as a request to Ik Multimedia.

I set it to this, same as you :):

BrowseDown=26
BrowseLoad=28
BrowseUp=24

Ok, off to preview presets without even using the mouse!! woohoo!

Hi Jeez. It will get better. I am getting a monitor that you use a stylus on instead of a mouse. It is one particular position that hurts me, and the clicking. I should be all set soon. No more clicking ( I will be pushing the pen down to click ) and I will be using my arm more, less my wrist. In the meantime, I don't make any music, but right now I am just loading up sounds and playing.. just checking them out.. getting inspired. I am not doing any tweaking in my sequencer or anything. Haven't been for a while.

Hi

Topic: Changing St2 presets using MIDI keyboard - thread

I have been searching and following the above thread to get my xp-80 to change sounds in ST2 and SS2. I have changed the pref files for each to represent the midi note numbers
BrowseDown=16 (E0)
BrowseLoad=17 (F0)
BrowseUp=18 (F#0)

Set up a monitor in LP7 to check that my midi note numbers are correct - they are.

However, I cant seem to get this to work. It worked once, browse down in SS2 loaded previous patch, but have not been able to replicate this.

Also, the SS2 and ST2 prefs files will reset themselves to default -1 for each browse function. I have to quit Logic and restart to retain midi note number settings.

Anyway, still does not work.
Anyone have any ideas to help me, this would be appreciated.

kind regards
Bronnie

Sorry, no easy answer for this one. Sounds weird. I suggest you contact IK tech support (via the link in your user area) and they'll get back to you and walk through the problem with you.

Maybe try an octave higher, or lower, or use the highest octaves...
Make sure you have 2.1.1. It works for me *shrug*
