Well. Exciting! I was telling richard that the first OSC with surge, back at 1.6 beta 1 or something, helped me find and fix a nasty bug in the filter bank so look forward to some great music and interesting feedback here.

Few things

On bugs and contact: I'll monitor this thread and the other kvr thread linked in the month; but GitHub issues and the baconpaul-sidequests channel in surge discord are also good ways to get attention or report bugs

On versions: version 1.0.5 (edit: Was 1.0.4 on Feb1 - you should upgrade to 05)) is basically 1.0 with a couple of critical bug fixes. You should run at least 1.0.5. But the nightly is the 1.1 candidate and has a few big features. You may very well want to run the nightly, since several of the features allow much finer control over unison, has more correct (as well as original 'spiky') TX wavetables, and adds some big features like vst3 param smoothing and a 7-out synth plugin version which lets you have each operator as a separate DAW bus for post processing.

1.0.5 is here: <https://github.com/baconpaul/six-sines/ ... tag/v1.0.5>
Nightly is here: <https://github.com/baconpaul/six-sines/ ... ag/Nightly>

The version of the synth shows in the footer. If you run the nightly and have a bug letting me know that hash in the footer would help.

The big 1.0 bug which isn't fixed in the nightly yet is for people with very small screens. The synth is 850px or so high and doesn't support down-scaling so a 900px laptop can crop. I'll put this to the top of my list and try and get it fixed in the nightly this weekend. Doing so requires me to boot windows and test with windows HDPI, so I needed some other motivation. OSC is that!

On CPU: Some folks on windows on some architectures have reported outsized CPU usage. It's not amazingly well optimized but it's pretty good. If you are burning CPU, bring down unison, turn off operators you don't need etc... but if this is a persistent problem for the group here I can do two things, including adding some lower engine sample rates and also building a binary with block size 16 or 32 rather than 8, which will consume less cpu but also give somewhat less snappy modulation.

On using it: Well, it's mostly an FM synth. But a few hints for the challenge here which may help are (1) it's also a Ring Mod Synth. change an operator from PM to AM with the phi / A control on each knob. That's a relatively underexpolored option. Making noisy drum sounds like hats and snares is often hard, but the feedback can drive into noise easily. Feedback has a '10x' overdrive button for a feedback node which will help, and in the nightly, the matrix nodes also have this for PM.

And well that's about it. I'm really happy people like the synth - it was a result of a sort of 30 day personal challenge to myself to make something new, and it worked well. It also found loads of bugs in our libraries which would have taken much longer to find in short circuit or surge xt 2 or whatever. So the project has already been really fun and worthwhile, but I am super excited to hear what you all do with it!

Congratulations on the result of your 30-day challenge!
Really excited to get into this and find out how it all works. FM is still something of a mystery to me. Downloading the nightly now :)

Okay last month I made it about to about 80% and then life got in the way, but I think I will keep trying.

Quick question (and I have had a look with no success so far), Six-sines currently doesn't seem to allow entry (from keyboard) of parameter values. I can see them which is cool but not edit them.

The reason this came up is because the Ratio dials sweep fast and jump large-ish steps at a time.

I have found (Windows) that Shift-ALT gives a finer tuning but not enough IMO.

Have I missed something?

EDIT: Latest Nightly and have tried in Live 12 and Studio One 5. Seems to be a keyboard capture thing?

FWIW I got a virus warning from McAfee on Nightly but 1.0.4 came through fine.

This might be the maddest thing I've seen. It's the Six Sines git log animated; Like a development speed-run. :D

Okay works in Stand-alone but not for the VST for whatever reason (latest nightly and 1.04)

I'll have a look on github

Yeah the nightly changes like 14 times a day so the virus scanners don’t keep up. It uses the same mechanism as the stable release and there’s not much I can do. I understand not wanting to bypass it but I can assure you it is a false positive. All our builds are no human intervention from source in a new machine each time provided by Microsoft

Excuse my ignorance, and delete if this is inappropriate/wrong, but..

Is this a final released synth or still in beta?

I always get a bit confused with this open source/discord/stuff

No offence meant, just trying to keep up.
