Just noticed the discussion on the first page about Elastica being a Wire tribute act. Thought that was well known? The club I went to as a kid always played Connection by Elastica followed by Three Girl Rumba by Wire.
In fact Wire now have a writing credit with Justine et al.

Pretty sure nobody's mentioned this one, gotta be old. When this Joe Jackson song hit the radio, I was a bit shocked how directly it lifted the first line of the Badfinger song, which was a hit about a decade earlier. I don't know if anybody has ever asked Jackson about it; I'm guessing he was aware when he wrote it, and just said the heck with it, that's the way the line should go. The melody goes a completely different direction after the first line.
