What are your thoughts on the noteGrabber?

This can be done many ways, including DAW built tools, pitch detection, stem separation tools, etc. this plug simplifies the workflow however since it’s real time. One use case which I’ve run into is: some plugins have a built in sequencer and a sequencer that doesn’t support midi export or modifications, like Dune 3. Add this on the chain and get MIDI. I’ve got RipX Daw that makes this possible, but its a little chore to get a short sample to MIDI. There’s Neural Note out there for free also, wondering how more or less accurate this is. https://github.com/DamRsn/NeuralNote

I picked it up to try it out as it seems like there is a 30 day refund option. I’ve been following Navie D on YouTube for a while as he’s got some useful beat making ideas. This seems like his first plug and it looks cool. If anyone wants to grab it, LAUNCH coupon code will drop price by 20%.

I am also using neuralnote. It would be interesting to hear your feedback about note grabber.

Just playing around with the two, I kind of wish they had more overlap: What I like about NeuralNote is that it puts in the notes in for you. Whereas in noteGrabber, you have to draw notes over the heat map. But Neural Note doesn't let you draw your own, and you don't see a heat-map. So as you make adjustments to Note Sensibility, Split Sensibility, duration, notes appear & disappear, and some of them you want to keep vs not. I suppose for my workflow, the advantage is noteGrabber, since I'm just looking for key riffs from a short duration sample, so if I have to draw 15-20 notes in, it's OK because I see the heatmap and draw them right over.

2. What I like about noteGrabber is that it's a more continuous workflow. I can stop recording/restart, can be useful to mock with the sample a little bit (i.e. emphasize transient/de-reverb, and see how it improves sensitivity of detection), and see it. Whereas in NeuralNote, you have to re-record from scratch. But what I like about NeuralNote more is that you can adjust transcription on the recording, whereas in noteGrabber, you actually have to re-record when you adjust things like Gain/Range. I'm still undecided which seems to fit better for my workflow. I suppose there's room for both.

Overall, I am leaning towards keeping noteGrabber. Just on a few samples, I did get better results from noteGrabber - and not due to the tool, but more because I can see the heatmap, scroll over and see if a note fits, rather than purely relying on the AI. I think if noteGrabber adds the ability to at least auto-populate notes in over the heatmap, and just let me delete/add, it becomes a clear winner of the two.

The thing I hope that is nice about noteGrabber is that it's got a developer behind it, actively working on it. If this is a first release and the developer is open to implementing changes/enhancements, this will only improve.

Thank you very much!

I'll give it a go. I use pure data to do this sort of thing currently. It just tracks spectral maxima. This could be handy also for playing with found sounds and bizarre noises. What does it do with notes between notes? Does it support pitch bend out?
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

I'm also curious how the bass resolution is. Pitch analysis tends to get tricky down in the bass register or does it have a min/max frequency setting for avoiding drums etc?

Bass resolution is good through 25hz; actually this seems better than Neural Note. Range in noteGrabber however only has a max boundary. I emailed the developer and suggested a few enhancements: auto populate MIDI notes as a starting point, play-back MIDI w/o first having to drag and drop, and to allow more than 1 PC. He responded that indicates these are being considered on the roadmap.

With a simple 2 note upright bass loop, NeuralNote added 5 extra notes. The midi output by Melodyne was exactly the same as the original audio.

Good idea, terrible execution.

Yeah Melodyne is slick for this.
Duh

Hey everyone, I'm the guy who made the plugin (Navie D)

Thank you all for your honest opinions. If you guys have the time, I would love to hear what you think can be done to improve the plugin. My team and I are already planning an update, so I would love to hear what you guys like/disliked about it so I can make it even better.

Also thank you to OP for posting this, and also sending over your helpful suggestions already :)

Love your YouTube Navie.
Auto populate would be great as stated above. Some kind of overlapping synth or sampler to check the tone before dragging it to the DAW is something I feel is missing from all of these plugs that could help with work flow. Also a way to adjust the midi if it doesn't match. So maybe it suggests potential scales then let's the user pick the best one. Thanks for listening!

My setup is fine for monophonic but can either of these, say, take audio of a Bach keyboard piece and produce accurate polyphonic midi? thx
