Have an older MacBook (intel) still fully functional, want to repurpose it for a minimal, budget conscious workstation.
Already found quite a few nice freebies on here!
However can’t find an alternative to microtonic, drum samplers yes, but no free drum synth VST’s.
Any ideas
Thanks

Maybe try the U-He Zebralette. I'm currently using it for a (KVR) one-synth challenge track, and I'm very surprised how nice it is for percussion, among other things, particularly due to the waveform and waveform fx options - can easily create interesting textures crucial for percussion sounds.
Also, it seems like a new version will be coming out soon as well.

Thank you Opaque and erelearn, 2 good candidates!
I was thinking about using a single synth on multiple tracks (Surge XT, Zebra CM), but never did it … completely forgot about the new beta Zebralette v3!

Tattoo, by AudioDamage, is limited to basic, analogish drum machine sounds. Not super impressive but it does fit the bill for free drum synths. https://www.audiodamage.com/pages/free-and-legacy

It's basically microtonic without the sequencer + additive osc , comb filtering and a few more distortion curves .
And , it's only six parts instead of 8
There is a also a separate version for playing drumparts chromatically
