Self contained project file, with audio file(s), similar to Audacity project files?

I'm working with the demo version of Acoustica, but I'm having a bit of an issue with how the files are managed. I'm entertaining using something better than Audacity, but I'm not sure if I'm wrapping my head around how Acoustica handles its files.

Audacity has a project file (.aup3) that has everything self contained in it, included any recorded audio. If I open up a project, it has the audio file, and my plugin chain. Is this now how the .awf project work? I was working on something in Acoustica, and there was a glitch after adding a plugin, so I saved the audio file and the workspace, then exited out of the program. I opened the workspace file, but there was no audio file. Is this the way this is supposed to work?

I tend to work this way, whereby i duplicate an audio file and it's associated FX chain and then alter some aspect of the file or fx chain...versioning.
Oftentimes going back to previously edited work many months later.
Thanks for the elaboration. The region and label lists are stored along with the file formats that supports this such as WAV and AIFF. Unfortunately, there's no project file support at the time being. You can save processing chains as individual files. The chain is not tied to a specific file. A key concept is that you have the possibility to quickly try the same chain on different files. I guess what you would prefer is the ability to store the list of open files along with the processing chain in a project file?

Rather than bumping an old post, I thought I'd quote it and bring it into this one.

What I am primarily doing right now is recording my vinyl collection, and wanting to save a project that has the original 32-bit float audio file, along with the history of edit and processing chains. The purposed of keeping everything self contained is for situations where I need to come back and make some edits and/or further enhancements, after exporting a 16-bit/48KHz AIFF file for use with DJ'ing software... and realizing something about my initial export was lacking.

I'm not sure I'm understanding how I can re-load something I've worked on, to make updates/corrections to it? I might not even be here asking this question, if not for Audacity projects being unable to make changes to real-time effects settings/chains non-destructively (I can close a project and choose not to save it, but any changes to the chain and its plugins are indeed saved, but no changes/edits to the actual audio are saved).

I bought the full version. Anyone from Avon in here that might address the question(s) I had?
