How can I make sure my PC isn't a "Copilot PC", and is there an easy way to check after updating to 24H2 that it Copilot + recall is completely disabled/absent?
I _really_ don't want such a feature enabled.

You can also create an installation ISO without the bloatware.

Took me 10 seconds to find several, you could have done it in the time it took for you to reply. Make an effort.

Don't forget to ensure that your tin foil hat is in good condition and correctly fitted before attempting any of this. We don't want any stray AI energy worming its way into our skulls, do we?

More fool those people because it always works perfectly well for me. As I said, I've been on 24H2 since October, on three different computers, and they've all been fine. Maybe it's a laptop thing - integrated components in standard configurations. There's a tip anyone can heed - keep your computer in a standard config to avoid problems. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would bother building their own PC these days. PCs are so powerful and so incredibly cheap in 2025 that there is no reason not to buy something off the shelf.

I did to be able to select MB and chassis with enough slots for PCIe cards and graphics card of you choice.

Strong enough power supply to run any graphics card available.

Enough usb ports are nice as well, for audio and midi interfaces, input devices etc.

Most standard pc fail on either of that stuff.

For us using external gear mostly, then....

Because they enjoy it? Because they end up with the exact system they want using the components they want? Because they get a more powerful system built exactly the way they want for less cost?

Only if you have an idea of what those words, in that order, mean. I do not. To me they are just familiar words arranged in such a way as to say nothing.

My Legion Go sits in a dock with enough I/O ports to satisfy anyone. It's also where the PSU plugs in, so I only have one USB cable to disconnect to go to rehearsal or a gig.

I'd be surprised if you have as much external gear as I do and I manage just fine.

That's kind of my point - why does anyone need a computer to be "as powerful as possible" for music production in 2025? FFS, my one and only PC is 21cm x 13cm x 2cm. It runs our entire set-up, in the studio and on stage, and it rarely uses more than about one-quarter of the available CPU power to do it. A couple of years ago I was only running a Core i5 and even that rarely got above 75% CPU usage. And I'm talking about mobile processors here, which are considerably less powerful than desktop CPUs. But it's still way more than we need.

We produced our first two albums on PCs with single-core CPUs running at something like 800MHz. Sure, VSTi didn't sound as amazingly good in 2003 as they do now but they still got the job done. My teeny-tiny PC today has more than 40 times the CPU power of that machine, it exceeds my music production needs by four or five times. And it runs Blender 3D and After Effects amazingly well into the bargain, thanks to its serious GPU.

When I bought my first laptop, in 2004, it felt like a bit of a gamble but it was an early Core-2-Duo and it ran rings around my Athlon 800 desktop. It was fairly poor when it came to motion graphics and 3D animation but I had a work supplied Dell M60 for that. Today I'd happily take on any 3D or motion graphics job with my 8.8" Legion Go, it's more than up to the task.
