dbennettashland wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:26 am Pretty sure nobody's mentioned this one, gotta be old. When this Joe Jackson song hit the radio, I was a bit shocked how directly it lifted the first line of the Badfinger song, which was a hit about a decade earlier. I don't know if anybody has ever asked Jackson about it; I'm guessing he was aware when he wrote it, and just said the heck with it, that's the way the line should go. The melody goes a completely different direction after the first line.

Yep

Talking of intros, I've been fooled by a few, including these 2.

One of the songs on SNL last week reminded me of "Padam Padam" by Kylie Minogue.
I'm not posting either link because
a) I don't feel like finding the link to the first song
b) I don't want to be responsible for anyone getting the second stuck in their head.

I saw the Sly Stone doc the other night and Terry Lewis said the bass riff from Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation is a sample from a Sly Stone song.

Not really very simliar, but the chorus lines of each one reminds me of the other...

"Take me down to the paradise city..."
"I'll take you down there... I'll take you..." :D

I even thought of doing a crazy mash up of those. (but I never did).

Where have I heard this before ?

"Hi Ren" by Ren and "Steven" by Alice Cooper--some stylistic and topical similarities.
