TH-U has already established itself as one of the most powerful and versatile amp and effects modeling platforms available. Now, with TH-U v2, it reaches new heights, bringing significant innovations while preserving everything that made its predecessor a gold standard for guitarists and bassists.

What’s New in TH-U

This major update introduces:
• A completely redesigned GUI, offering an even more intuitive and efficient workflow.
• Polyphonic Global Transposer allowing players to instantly shift their tuning up or down —perfect for playing in different tunings on the fly.
• TH-U Unified Model Panel, integrating all amp and effect models into a single streamlined interface.
• Multi-Row Effect Arrangement, allowing users to organize effects either horizontally for a traditional view or vertically for custom signal chains.
• An updated graphic engine that ensures stability: TH-U is now even more stable for live performance settings
• smart list: added a search function to the SuperCabinet
• MIDI: Improved MIDI Bank and Program Change support
• Tags: Favorites tagging and reference brand search

The upgrade price from TH-U v1 to THU v2 is $29. However, if you purchase any THU expansion, such as a Rig Library, Artist Pack or Edition, all your existing TH-U v1 licenses will be upgraded to THU v2 for free.

The TH-U Ecosystem: Modeling and Capturing at Its Best
Built with Fluid Modeling technology, TH-U delivers unmatched realism and flexibility, featuring:
• 89 guitar amplifiers and 4 bass amplifiers
• 50 guitar cabinets and 2 bass cabinets
• 85 pedal and rack effects
• 18 microphone models
• +1000 presets ready to play

TH-U v2 isn’t just an update—it’s a step forward, expanding the possibilities for every musician.

I tried the free THU given recently. I think it competes with the other big amp sims.
What I find a little regrettable is they all :
- use the skeuomorphic approach, eg lots of screen space used to make it look like the hardware
- very little use of modern digital tools, from meters to LFOs etc..
- limit the product to guitar + bass, whereas for example I found BIAS FX2 makes an excellent multi-fx plugin for anything from keys, drums, even vocals
With about 25 years using DAWs and having tried thousands of plugins, I find there is still much room for progress particularly with guitar amp sims.
So far the approach still seems a bit stuck in the classic hardware framework.

Thanks..
It is a bit confusing at the moment.
I have TH-U, not sure I qualify for a free update, but TH-U v2 is in my download in my account, so I downloaded it, but I am getting this...

I am of course willing to pay the $29, but I am not sure how to.

Who thought this Red colour was a good way to Display Bank Names?

so 29 bucks for an GUI update, or is something new to come ?

I found out after the fact if you buy a rig library or ir cabinet, you get it free, so it make more sense to buy something for $29 that qualifies.

is it realy an GUI update, i just compared to TH3 and there is no big difference, in some case TH3 parameters are more readable, but amps look more feny in TH-U2

To all, please also note the Overloud account making this post only made 9 posts since 2010.
They don't really engage .. that's how NOT to run social media marketing...
Anyhow, happy guitar playing to all. I'm going to stick to BIAS FX2, I prefer its UI and sounds, fun to play with.

I've tried the essentials that they gave away. Love the sound but some patches kill my cpu, which to be fair is getting long in the tooth. Need to spend more time with it and see how it performs with my own custom patches. Great sound though.

Gave this a quick spin yesterday. I wasn't expecting much more than GUI/workflow improvements having read the info ahead of release but I'm still disappointed.

Issues:

1. The scrolling the GUI thing is still a thing - I hate this about TH-U. I never want to be horizontally/vertially scrolling in a plugin.
2. You can still accidentally grab the amp and drag it instead of the knob if your aim isn't spot on with a control. I really thought they were fixing this stuff. I thought that was the whole point of being able to place things above/below, left/right. They could've fixed this by implementing the much requested "Lock" feature, but didn't even do that!
3. It's nice that you can position amps+cabs+FX above/below, left/right of each other, but the options here are so, so, so very limited. Hopefully they improve this in the future. I'm still wasting a lot more space than I would like.
4. The orange/red text color used everywhere is awful. I'm glad I'm not colorblind as I know red text can be problematic for those that are. This feels like "welcome to the 1980s where red text is rad!"
5. Super Cabinet, which I use all the time, got a little more clumsy to use. You used to be able to see which of the IR slots had something loaded in them and what, but now you actually have to click on each slot to see it. Ugh...moving backwards is bad.

The good:

1. Favorites are nice. Browser is improved.
2. Polyphonic pitch shifting works for quick detuning.

And honestly, the new GUI's don't seem that much better/different. So I'm kind of neutral on that.

Obvious missed opportunity(ies):

1. Not opening their Rig Player tech to end-users. Are they blind to the fact that ToneX became a smash hit because of this? Or do they think if they think they make enough money selling closed-source rig libraries with no user-generated content that it's worth making the main product worse?
2. How cool, and how much of an edge would it have given them if they allowed users to create the TH-U equivalent of "Liquid Profiles" with more than just a single capture?
3. If you're going to have a "zoom" option because you use space so poorly that users will be inclined to zoom out to avoid scrolling, then at least offer 10% increments.
4. And again, no "Lock Module Position" is just a pain. Heck, off a "Lock View" option for the whole screen.
5. A Text Search option for the browser would've been nice and efficient.

Overall, an incredibly weak update and I wasn't expecting much. But the stuff I was hoping they dramatically improved is only a teensy bit better. Disappointing on many fronts. Which is crazy because I thought I knew what I was getting via workflow/GUI improvements only.

Does the install overwrite and replace TH-U version 1.4?

Post

yes it does (as I expect it would and should).

Yes, so don't update your TH-U unless you plan on upgrading.
