The discussion whether TAL-Mod is modular or not, and thus whether the name is misleading or not, may not be fully on topic, but I can't leave this uncommented because I've been using VAZ Modular for 25 years. That wasn't just one of the most overlooked softsynths at the time it got to v3, it also eschewed patchcords in favour of drop-down menus and it was distinguished from its lesser versions, VAZ Plus and VAZ 2010, while *each* of them was patch-programmable to various degrees. Just because a synth has programming options doesn't mean it's modular. Modular means that for each patch you get to choose your own module assortment from what's available or even that you can decide yourself how many instances of each module *are* available, with limitations only being imposed by practical factors like space, cost or (in software) memory and CPU, but not by the *designer*. In the hardware world, early programmable non-modular synths like the 2600 (patchcords), MS-20 (patchcords), Easel (patchcords and storage card) or VCS3 (pins) are called semi-modular, and that's the maximum one can attribute to TAL-Mod without being wrong or misleading.

I can't believe I just saw someone get audjoo-helix-pilled in 2025!

Always thought Loomer's Aspect didn't get the attention it deserves. No effects included but can sound gorgeous without.

It sounds better than a lot of synths released these days.kippertoffee wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 1:06 pm I can't believe I just saw someone get audjoo-helix-pilled in 2025!

There are some standalones that are deserving... Someone already mentioned VAZ but the FIRST version of VirSyn was easily a match but had a superior sequencer that is not in the later VSTi... Sure they had one but it was paltry in comparison... Sound & FX were great-

Any note in the sequencer can be corded with all inversions, ties, glides, accents are all there, much more-

Crashy on modern systems found compat mode at windows 95 greatly helped... Made a crappy tune since automation is farting with X/Y pads whilst the tape is running (capture) didn't bother to do over again-

Another is the last standalone of SimSynth, very good sound even nowadays but the plugin version sucked beyond the pale-

Good to see the devs were not PC nor self-censoring-

For modern times Tranzistow is quite a catch especially being freeware (as long as it's used in devs own EXE) If using in another DAW it goes demo mode... Amazingly it comes with 4,000 presets & the EXE has TWO slots for FX so first one I use a chainer & second I use TapeIt to record samples... It will take awhile just to get through them all...

Many pages of panels-

YUP, But some ain't so old but still almost unknown & overlooked... virtually everything created by Benjamin Rosseaux is such... The BR404 Synth, The BR808 Synth, The old Farbrausch V2 used in most all the Farbrausch videos, all power stuff the only catch is on ALL BeRo stuff-
-No Presets
-No Manual, Docs or Changelog
-Powerful Features But Some You May Never Figure Out
I posted about Farbrausch here-
viewtopic.php?t=616517
The BR404-808 are powerhouses with 4 or 8 osc, buttloads of waveforms for each, modulation matrix, speech, formants, LFOs up the ass...
Here in BeRoTracker blocking out the tracker-

https://blog.rosseaux.net/page/f9e88656 ... 5b2c/BR404
https://blog.rosseaux.net/page/1c360906 ... 2634/BR808
Have started building up presets for the 404, possibilities are an ocean...

Finally got a disc drive and I found 2008 Audjoo Helix. It works and sounds fantastic. Also found a copy of Superwave (Ultimate) I think it's called. It's pretty nice, especially for a Synthedit work.

One which I find handy is Acrobatics EGO Pad so use it as a 'single-finger' backing track to test out ideas & such without wasting time building from scratch, but not many DAWs can digest EGO Pad, many vomit right back up on simple scan...
Here in BeRoTracker I use EGO Pad thru Phrazor beta because Phrazor will digest EGO Pad but BeRoTracker won't... Also BeRoTracker does not sync plugs but Phrazor does so I just match BPMs in BeRo & Phrazor manually, DONE!...
I did same exact setup in Skale Tracker with just 2 tracks here one with EGO Pad & the other with Akai power chord instrument with PortaToNote, Vibrato & Arpeggio & since none of the commands overlap They are all one one track-
It's only 32 seconds-

EGO Pad quite an item (if you can run it) but never hear about... It's been around awhile & updated a number of times-
