You must be talking the last non-expiring beta of Helix?... Like this one?... I recently found a good link for it as I thought I had the last one but did not, now I do...

You should find the CPU usage extremely favorable quite a bit better than when it was released commercial...

I always thought the Klangformer was pretty cool, takes a bit extra to install as some stuff gotta be placed in windows directory & such... Same lineage as the Freesonic, Ninja & Rebel...

Has a buttload of presets-

Steinberg instruments seem a bit overlooked to me, considering how good some of them are.

Feel like some of the Reaktor synths are sorely underrated. Thinking stuff like Prism- modal synthesis that can make real sounding stuff but also totally alien screeching- Form for granularish weirdness, Kontour for pm with a very confusing but unique interface.

Beyond that, I see very little mention of Cableguys Curve 2- the ui is quite bad and it's limited in many ways, but I've been using it to create some nice wavetables or even just single cycle FM bursts. It's such a great concept and I'm looking forward to seeing it updated. So f**king small.

Lastly Dawesome Abyss. It does get mentioned here and there but is overshadowed by Myth/Zyklop. Personally, I use it in every track- making the darker more foresty organic psytrance, Abyss is just an instant atmosphere generator. I usually just bounce out long notes and throw into a granular engine. So good. Wish you could control envelope curves more, I think this is essential for making goods pads... great synth. I prefer it to Myth.

Thread slowing down already...

Steinberg plugs were touted back in the day (well, not NEON) but some still mention A1 But few ever mention Xphraze which will never be obsolete...

One of my very top Synths is AXS, which is a Tracker that has internal multi-timbral subtractive synth up to 7 instances plus sampler (channel 8)... It sounds great & is inspirational just to jam in... ported from DOS & given out free in 2001 it is undiscovered gem as it is crash-free (never ever crashes) can ingest samples of 16 or 24bit mono or stereo... If you try a 32bit float it just won't accept it, but never crash...

Only 452 KB FULL directory size but will create a song file as big as needed (I have a good number well over 100 MB)...

I made a fan wallpaper-

how does it sound? Pretty good but only drawback is there is no panning in AXS... Delay Send is the only thing that gets panning otherwise it renders out a uniform stereo file...

Latest tune-

This one has more synth instances, frog bass, organ chording (using 4 tracks), main synth 'guitarish' lead & muffled bell lead... Still had 3 synth instances left... Vocal hits dedicated to KVR member BONES-

This WIP attempt to phase in two chords as seamless as possible, needs more work-

Anyways there is large interest now... My thread over at warmplace just topped 845,000 views... Don't be a stranger...

Abyss is indeed a true Gem and seems a bit overlooked. Also the easiest on Cpu out of the Dawesome line. This quote pretty much sums it up.
Abyss is just an instant atmosphere generator.

After investing quite a bit of money in U-He and Synapse Audio synths, I realized that 99.99% of what I need can be done with Surge XT.

I think Surge XT is cool, but it doesn't have filter FM. I prefer the sound of the filters in Icarus.

Also underrated is in my view Gladiator from tone2.
It's one of the best virtual synthesizer ever made, at least as good as Zebra from U-He.
The quality of the filters and effects are top and the sound-design possibilities are near endless.
The only little draw-back is that it has a learning curve because of the unusual modifiers and modulators but if if you are used to it Gladiator is dream.
I have Warlock, the little brother of Gladiator, because it's much simpler to use.

Zebra is a different animal really.
But... and hopefully the "church" won't descend upon me for saying this...
Gladiator is at least as good as Omnisphere IMO.

That's only true if you worry more about the process than the result, which makes no sense. That's why I've never really thought about synths in that way. V/A, FM, Phase Distortion, Additive, Wavetable, whatever... it's how good they sound that matters to me, not how they go about doing it.

That's always going to be the case. You could probably do everything you want with just one Synapse synth or just one U-He synth, too. Different instruments will take you to different places and there are always some things that are easier to get from one instrument than from another. In my experience, if you do everything with just one synth, you'll limit yourself somewhat. Choice is a good thing.
