Basic question but never come across this before so...
Just fired up an old MXL condenser I can't have used in a decade and can't get anything really out of it. I double checked the cable with a dynamic mic (fine) and measured the voltage with phantom power engaged (~45v). If I tap the casing (hard) I can get some spikes though very low (-30db), vocals aren't picked up at all. Flipped the pad and filter switches in case to blame but nope.
Dead? Anything else I can check? It's been kept in it's foam lined aluminium case but may have spent a year in a loft (UK loft, roof space, cold...)
Cheers.
Dead condenser mic?

Do you have another condenser mic you can swap out with the MXL just to ensure that the problem is the mic and rule out all other factors?

Unfortunately not anymore, rarely record anything nowadays except field recordingsa on a tascam dr05. I'm just asking in case there's something obvious I could check now, was planning on taking it to a friends when they're available, cryophonik wrote: Sun Feb 23, 2025 5:49 pm Do you have another condenser mic you can swap out with the MXL just to ensure that the problem is the mic and rule out all other factors?
