Seems like most music is 2-3 min nowadays… remember back in the day some songs pushed 10+ min lol

I think it depends upon the genre and the decade / publication date.
A lot of great classics pulled of 4-6 and weren't just one hit wonders.
But that was then, in the past. These days, a lot of K-pop candy is coming in at 2-3 minutes.
But I don't like K-pop as much as some 1990s classics. It's just lately the closest thing I can find to 1990s styles.

If that's not a criteria, Autechre recently finished an album with a 59 min tune

Most radio edits of songs were shorter than the album or single releases if those were 4-5 mins.
Most popular songs are designed to grab you from the get-go. TikTok and the like are the ideal place for pop songs. And yeah, I imagine that the sounds and structure are changing to suit the format - which in turn is indicative if changing tastes.

It's been quantified that pppular music, iow music on the charts is shorter now. It's also far far less likely to have a bridge or any key change. Also the melodies contain fewer notes. All quantified. Also instead of being from a band it's now an artist who "collaborated" with one of a very few songwriters like Max Martin, etc. Again quantified.

i must say, in contrast, there's a tune by Shulman, "Inner Selves" where the entire introduction is 3-4 minutes long and the full tune duration is 11min44s(!!!!) It's a great tune, it doesn't get boring, and it shows that it can be done...
