Massive X or Twin 3

i love how someone asks a question, ie 'massive x or twin 3', then people dive in to offer unrelated plugins, explanations of why neither is good (often from people who use neither one), discussions and arguments over other gear, or just arguments over points-of-view, regardless of the OP topic. fun times

Maybe because the OP asked for a "desert island synth" and neither MX or Twin are broad enough to fit into that category?

Did you liked it? I think it's underrated synth for sure...Or maybe it hasn't any new and unique things...

It's a subtractive synth with lots of custom modulation options. That's all. It sounds fantastic. No one turns to subtractive for "new" at this point, do they?

inspired by this thread, am going to dive into twin3 this week (i've had it since FF released it, used it sparingly). but never really spent time with it, so... we'll see. (fwiw, i sold my MX license; nothing wrong with that synth either, just didn't use it much).

it's... nice. easily more useful than i've let it be. but need more time with it, and, most important of all, need to see how it fits into my workflow, my music. will post back if/when i have something to post!

It isn't higher quality than Diva or Repro I'm terms of analogue emulation. It can do that stuff nicely but it's really just one facet of Massive X. If that is your main intended purpose, MX isn't the right synth for you.

But it can do analogue really nicely. As well as physical modelling, multi OP Fm, percussion, and the typical wavetable stuff. It is a very diverse synth that doesn't really focus on any one element. If anything, I think it excells at more wild sound design/atmospheres/pads, mainly because of the insert FX and ability to load wavs in the noise oscillators.

No, analog emulation is not the forte of MX. It can do some solid sounds in that area though, but it is not instant dial in gorgeous sounds with no effort like RePro and Diva.

And depending on your use cases, you might be surprised at MX's various limitations.
No Midi Learn
No direct Parameter Automation
Doesn't support MPE, PolyAT, MTS-EPS
It has a horrid browser.

All things that RePro and Diva support and that one might not think to ask about before buying because stuff like Midi Learn and Automating Parameters are so ubiquitous that it is expected to be there.

Regarding Twin and Massive X I prefer Twin. I think it's really underrated synth...

You can make some extremely good sounding bass loops in TRK, if that's the type of music you are into
