BONES wrote: Fri Feb 28, 2025 10:18 pm I don't know that I'd even look at what it comes with. I already have more synths that I'll ever need and Reaktor is expensive. If I was going to fork over all that cash it would be because there are things I want to make. If you recall, I had a pretty vast library of synths and effects I made in SynthEdit, back in the day.
Reaktor- and all of its ensembles- can be purchased for $99 right now. That's the opposite of "expensive".
Where do you see it for $99. I see it for $199 everywhere

No, it is the absolute most I have ever paid for any plugin and I've only spent that much three or four times in 20-odd years. I'll agree that it's a bargain and I am very tempted to buy it at that price, but $99 is still a lot of money, especially as I can't really see myself using it all that much.

I just looked on NI's site and Reaktor is Au$299. That's about 50% more than US$99, still more than I am wiling to pay for something I am unlikely to use that much.

Do you only use what you currently have in "player mode"? Just curious. I've had it since complete 2 and I spent some time making my own shit that did one thing in the way I wanted. It's definitely handy for live music which seems to be your forte. Or did I miss something and you already have full reaktor?

No, I only have the Player. I haven't touched SynthEdit since before it could do 64 bit and I don't really feel like getting back into it 15 years on. It feels like it was a phase I went through, that I am well and truly over now. Dealing with higher level modules though, as in Blocks, might get me back into making stuff, but it would want to be a lot cheaper than it is currently.

At some point I bet it actually hits $99. I haven't been using it much recently only because of new synths like Atomika, but over the years I've used Reaktor a ton. You could easily do a whole album with Reaktor only, since there's a couple thousand ensembles. I'm not a fan of NI's sloppy marketing and upgrade issues, but Reaktor is amazing and will continue to be even if NI abandon it completely.

Reminds me to go over all the recommended ensembles I collected.

Considering it's EOL I'm surprised they're still asking $199 for it. It should be like $49 which would basically just be an admissions fee for the User Library. But, this is NI and I don't understand most of the decisions they make.

There is some information that Reaktor is "frozen", but I would not say EOL yet.
I mean it's likely, but NI have always been at least flat out honest about what software they depreciate. They have not said it's depreciated yet, an NI rep on their forums said it's not under development at this time, and he's a sad panda about that, but that's about it. Even if all they do is maintenance updates for Windows on Arm, and whatever Apple throws at them, it's still a solid bit of kit.

NI have announced there will be more synths. I wonder if they will all be based on Reaktor?

"Synths

While 2024 was the year Kontakt got its biggest update in years, in 2025 you’ll see more from NI in synths. It’s too early to share the rest of our plans, but I’m super jazzed about what the team is cooking up – including bringing some innovative new features to our synth products later this year."

It's fun but time consuming. I wouldn't really be very into reaktor if it hadn't been part of complete. I like lot's of the player stuff. I wish more 3rd party companies developed stuff for it.

I've never had any interest in Blocks, but the gazzilian ensembles in the User Library are more than enough to justify Reaktor.
