God you're a dickhead! It's not about hassle, its about intuitiveness.jens wrote:who thinks a simple double-click is too much of a hassle imo shouldn't be let near any computer at all...
What if I want to go through note by note and slightly randomise the velocity of each note [one of my favourite and most use modulation tricks]? Select one note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. Select the next note, change its velocity. OK, that's the first bar done. Move on to the next bar and repeat. Great f**king workflow, that.Imagine you recorded a typical piano-pattern. - the bas with the left hand and chords/melody with the right hand.
Later on while mixing your song you notice that the bass of the piano is too loud. - now you can simply open the piano-roll, lasso only the notes you played with the left hand and quickly correct the velocity.
In ORION I can just drag my cursor through the forest of velocity lines, moving it up an down slightly as I go and its done in 2 seconds. If I want to edit a whole bunch, as per your example, I can select those notes, right-click and choose scale velocities, enter a value [as a percentage] and its done.
I've produced two albums of original songs in ORION without ever connecting a MIDI keyboard to my computer so the Piano Roll is a very central part of the process for me and eXT doesn't come close to being useful in that department.
