Dear forum members,

i have a Nord G1 and a Roland 5080 with a drumstation and would love to have another synth
of the same qulaity. Music is EDM/HOUSE, prefreed acts are Leftfield/Rokysopp.

Any ideas?

That's a pretty broad request that will probably just result in everyone's favorite synths being recommended. Maybe you can help narrow it down a bit by including some additional requirements/preferences, such as:

- budget
- format (with keys vs desktop vs rackmount [and number of spaces])
- monophonic vs polyphonic (any minimum number of voices?)
- any preference for fully analog vs digital vs hybrid?
- any synths you've already been considering?
- any synths you've already ruled out?
- synthesis type (e.g., subtractive, FM, rompler, wavetable, etc.)
- is compatibility with your DAW a primary factor?

Yep. Without more details you might as well just use Google or go to Sweetwater and browse.

Although quite pricey, The Nord Wave 2 is not just a proper synth in itself, but also have a damn fine sample libraries that you can download to the synth.
J60 Heatwave for Omnisphere 3 - Juno-60 Inspired soundbank
HARDWARE SAMPLER FANATIC - Akai S1100/S950/Z8 - Casio FZ20m - Emu Emax I - Ensoniq ASR10/EPS

Elektron Digitone

Than you all! I willl check into 3rd Wave. Digitone i know, as well as many other synths, actually.
Doing this for 25 years, including doing sound design commercially.

But most synths are not in the league of upper class Rolands or Clavia, musical, great to mix.
Both can do upper end sounds, the other only synth i checked who nearly can do this the Microwave 2.

Maybe you have another suggestion.

Kind regards, Chris

Nord Wave 2 is great as well. Sound, it seems, is rather close to other Clavia synths.

A Waldorf Iridium desktop or synth with keys is also an excellent-sounding machine. It’s also capable of multiple synthesis types in case you’re interested in exploring those options.

I would add: what sounds/parts do you want to cover with a new synth (bass, pad, leads...)? Do you want something versatile or are you looking for something dedicated to certain tasks?

Well, I’d suggest an analog mono or poly of some sort, just to get a different feel than what you have. Something like the Melbourne Instruments Nina has two VCOs and a digital wavetable oscillator.

So is Serum2.

I’d suggest being very thoughtful when buying a digital synth to ensure you’re getting what you want without overlap you don’t want - and with the controls that make the difference.

Micromonsta 2! Might also suggest a used Cobalt8 or Modwave.
