Interesting! The fact that it supports Linux is what makes me interested!

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Interesting! My first thought is that Blockhead as a plugin within a more traditional DAW (like the way the plugin version of energyXT worked — a DAW within a DAW) would be fantastic!!
Mostly because, while this freeform approach is something I’ve always wanted, it would still need to somehow integrate into a more standard MIDI/VST environment (for arranging and mixing, multitracking, etc) to really have it all.
Maybe it’s simple enough to export stems or parts to another DAW? I still think eXT-style DAW-as-a-plugin would really open things up in new ways though.
I will probably check it out sometime, I’ll at least keep up on the news.

Nice! I use Fedora. Most people use some derivative of Debian.3lu5iv3 wrote: Sun Mar 09, 2025 8:21 amAre u a Linux user? May i ask what distro u use?audiojunkie wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 7:58 pm Interesting! The fact that it supports Linux is what makes me interested!![]()

I love how each audio wav is treated as its own window with its own menus. That is wild!

I think this project is too ambitious for a single person in their spare time to make good progress.
He should consider making a quite cut down version that just runs as a plug in.
Otherwise, it'll always be vaporware. Too much needed to make a good release.

Nope, he does fairly regular releases, it is not a spare time project, he tries to work on it full time, whenever he releases a video and gets a ton of interest he does struggle with all the questions though, he is very clear and plain about his inability to interact on that level and still spend time coding, because he gets stressed worrying that he cant complete everything, so sometime he just disappears and reappears a little later with an update.
He has undertaken some big overhauls of the back end recently, so the updates have been less flashy, but that is so he can flesh out the built in plugin system and some other bits, he does keep everyone updated vis patreon and the discord and he posts a bit on X too.

Colugo does dev videos regularly, the last is two weeks ago. I think he's said there's no plans to turn it into a plugin. It's also not vaporware because (depending on what build), it's useable now.
I disagree that it needs to integrate into a standard workflow. That's missing the point. It's a different way of working and that's good.
That said, it does now support track level CLAP plugins, so mixing is fine. All Fabfilter stuff is clamp. I don't remember if there's stem export, but it's not hard to do manually.
