Love to see more velvet noise reverbs. Here's an open source implementation that you can use to compare: https://amalgamatedsignals.com/nepentheCinningBao wrote: Mon Jan 27, 2025 7:40 pm Looks like another take on the velvet reverb algorithm, but the most fully-featured so far?
Ah, no that goes to apVerb.. this one does have a delightfully simple interface though.
Though velvet noise doesn't automatically = a good sounding reverb, it's at least interesting to see it put into practice

Thanks for the pointer. apVerb looks way more interesting. It seems to also have a much more intuitive interface, while being able to do the same and more than this new Soundtoy…CinningBao wrote: Mon Jan 27, 2025 7:40 pm Looks like another take on the velvet reverb algorithm, but the most fully-featured so far?

I became quite curious about Velvet Noise and how it is utilised by devs to make reverbs circuiuts so I did a vid last year, I think, covering all the ones which had been released by then.
Nepenthe was on that list. I even spoke to the dev to find out if they were planning on enhancing it, but I don't think that was in the immediate future.

Oh yeah, apVerb is _nuts_ powerful, but one must get their head around the unusual approach to 'designing' your reverb from scratch.Tj Shredder wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 10:07 amThanks for the pointer. apVerb looks way more interesting. One of the problems devs have when building an interface to their code is how much to show of the algorithm. How many knobs should be attached to the available variables in the code. apVerb is very much a "look at all the controls, learn what they do and have fun!", Nepenthe has barely any controls showing, just enough to shape it into a nice reverb.
Experienced devs like the SoundToys team have a sense of the musicality of these algorithms and, with their experience, understand how to 'simplify' the front-side of the algorithm for the most fun creative flexibility (I think EchoBoy is a great example of that). One of the coolest aspects of velvet reverbs (for me) is that it really is just a TONNE of delays all given very specfic values, derived from the velvet algorithm, and if you design the plugin right, the user can go all the way from a bunch of disparate, chaotic delays into deep, unimaginable spaces, with just a twist of a knob.
And that's why the SoundToys devices are so loved, and why I'm going to love this new reverb when it finally reaches my poor, tired CPU.

I saw and heard them demo it at the NAMM show. It's a bit noisy there but I think I got a good sense of what they're trying to do. They had a guitarist paring it with Decapitator in the rack to make instant shoegaze. But it sounded lovely on it's own for ambient and has some sound shaping tricks. I confirmed that it will be part of the bundle and as mentioned, works in their rack.

This sounds right up my street.
Does anyone know of a possible ETA for it's release yet?

well... I thought about a granular process in the way one early (gentle) sarcasm on this thread about a coffee grinder seemed quite relevant ?
