Yeah, took me a while to figure out how to use the sequencer. I almost, gasp, looked in the manual. The horror, the horror.

I'm just glad the sequencer has enough steps to set up Tangerine style ratcheting sequences. Ended up trying to reproduce the last section of TD's Horizon.

OK, I managed to buy it (my bank was kind of trigger-happy and declined the buy). I feel like I am back in the late seventies playing Yamaha SK-20 in local music shop after school. Fascinated about the "real" nature, expressiveness and liveliness of the sounds!

The quality of the modeling in this synth is on the different level than the Roland and Yamaha stuff. I'm not sure what you're implying by using Roland as an example of good CPU usage. Their plugins have giant CPU spikes and don't perform well at all. I haven't used Montage M VSTi, so I can't comment on how it performs. I do know that it's fine as an arranger keyboard, but I would not use it as a front-and-center sound source for analog synths in a song where I want to lean into that kind of sound.

I have a giant collection of soft synth like Diva, Softube Model 80/82/84, Roland, Arturia Collection, Spire, Rapid, Halion, Falcon, Omnisphere, Synthmaster, Ostirus, all most every Gforce, Avenger and much more.

This synth is the 1st I have spike and audio drop out on my workstation
I assume they will optimize later.

No, far from it. They are taking the juice they need for the thing to sound awesome no matter what you do with it. This has a price.

Also, don't run at 32 samples buffer size. That is what takes the most toll on the CPU. :P

I run it at 512. That's the buffer I normally use for making music.

EvilDragon wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 2:06 pm Note that the high CPU is simply because of the fact of how it's used on the hardware. Over there it has one Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 and it's using it fully - it doesn't need to care about anything other than just running that DSP code all the time. But of course, it is also dynamic voice allocation, so CPU usage is dynamic as well.

Having bugs for years without fixing them even when they know about the issues is being Lazy (Roland).
Which ACB Models have they released with more polyphony than 8 that is the standard for the System 8 plugins?

Everything was running smoothly at 32 buffers with my Ryzen 16C and a Motu 828
Until the Korg multi/poly native :!:

Running a 9950x with Orion Studio Synergy Core at 96k using a 32-sample ASIO buffer size.
Zero glitches.

It seems there's no multithreading. Pigments 6 has it.
When you play performance with 4 layers, even some newer CPUs struggle.
The workaround is to split performance into multiple layers each with separate plugin instance, as well as to control polyphony.
It's more clicks but solves the problem :D

IMHO multithreading in synths is for companies who can't create efficient code. Multicore should be controlled by the DAW only. There are exceptions like trustworthy vendors e.g. U-He etc.

If a synth hasn't multicore support - good! Put another instance on another track and let the DAW use another core for that instance.

Multicore in a synth usually comes with an overhead, too, using too much CPU. Only if it uses CLAP and the scheduling extension, and the DAW also supports it, then it might be a non-issue.

Simply create better, faster code.

I think you are a bit off-base there. Multithreading can absolutely be used by plugins which also have efficient code in them (i.e. Kontakt).

Can someone help me out with figuring out the filter tracking? I appreciate that they added flexibility, but I’m having trouble just getting it to behave like a standard synthesizer.

Just to say I am so f***ing impressed with this. This is to me by far the best sounding vsti in terms analogue modelling. I am demoing this next to some sexy analogue poly and oh boy. You can really push this to its limits. It doesn’t just sound utterly beautiful, but the GUI is absolutely exquisite. Wow holly sh*t I am so impressed. They got everything right. The filters are… phewww. They even correctly did singing envelopes in mono mode which so many of these ‘super synths’ don’t take into account. I love this so much I might consider getting the hardware too. Does anyone here own the hardware? How’s built quality?

Kinda wish didn’t buy Pigments 6. Pigmen is so lush and the sequencer is so cool, but the sound of this just blows it out of the water. No contest. Lemme know if you wanna buy my Pigmen license

I'd miss the sample/granular and additive oscillator modes if I got rid of Pigments.

It's explained in the manual, page 47 :)
