That is seriously cool. What a fun project! Well done.ThomasHelzle wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2025 3:32 pm Just to show that Osci-Render and Sosci can be used for more than just checking on your output signals:
We just released our new Media·Art website and one of the projects uses Osci-Render for all the visuals:

Thanks guys!
A dozen of these spotlights and tons of other equipment were thrown into the bin when the GDR was dissolved - it was heartbreaking to watch decades of work being dismissed like that.
I was working in stage design, props- and film set building at the time in a nearby studio and asked if I could have one.
It was a great feeling to finally bring it alive again
Cheers,
Tom

I have heard quite some people kind of ripped whole Nalepa Street apart. Actually you can still find frankensteined Channelstrips / Mixers and such. A real pity what happened there to all of that top notch equipment.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

I'm using the vst version (1.1.5.0) of sosci in Reaper 7. I can't get the audio input to control the value of a slider. After I click the microphone icon (for any parameter), the value goes to the minimum but isn't affected by the audio input. Am I missing something?

I think there are some issues with this in sosci at the moment - it should work in osci-render premium! In Reaper, I would recommend you do a sidechain that controls the automation of parameters in sosci rather than using the microphone icon for parameters because it works on anything and is a lot more configurable.Genetic_Junk wrote: Sat Mar 08, 2025 3:46 pm I'm using the vst version (1.1.5.0) of sosci in Reaper 7. I'll look into the issue with sosci, but I might also make this controllable instead through channels 3/4 instead of 1/2 which is what osci-render uses for the 'sidechain' input.

Thanks. Using Reaper's built in envelope follower is a good alternative.jameshball wrote: Sat Mar 08, 2025 3:50 pmI think there are some issues with this in sosci at the moment - it should work in osci-render premium! There are 5 released so far, that cover the following topics:
In addition to new tutorials, here's a round-up of some of the new features in sosci and osci-render recently:
- Visualiser glow and ambient light effects have been overhauled to be much easier to control
- Added a new visualiser setting called 'shutter sync' which creates a clear image when the drawing frequency and frame rate are in sync
- Added a new visualiser setting to enable 'goniometer' mode, rotating the visualiser by 45 degrees
- Added support for MP3, OGG, and FLAC audio file types in osci-render
- Added a new parameter to each slider that allows you to control how quickly the slider changes value, called 'Smooth Value Change Speed'. This is accessible in the new settings button next to each slider that allows you to control all slider settings, including the slider's range.
- Fixed several crashes, scaling issues on Windows, and many rendering bugs with the visualiser on Intel machines
- Many other small quality-of-life improvements!

Sosci is currently 20% off for Cyber Monday! This is the first time that sosci has gone on sale, so this is an excellent opportunity to grab it. This offer expires on December 2nd.
You can purchase it here: https://osci-render.com/sosci/
Since my last update, there's been some great quality-of-life improvements to sosci, along with some much-needed features:
- H265, ProRes, and VP9 recording codecs are now supported when recording
- There is now a popout button for the visualiser, allowing you to open it in another window
- The interface has been tweaked to look more modern
- Recording performance is now significantly better
I hope you continue to enjoy playing around with sosci!

It just keeps getting better and more refined with each update. Wonderful work James! For the most part, I’ve always been focused on music and sound design.
But experimenting with sosci has been a fun and rewarding detour, and I’m slowly getting involved with generating my own visuals to match my music. Thank you for the tools and the inspiration!
