Don't forget John McKay!! McGeoch's 117 was McKay's hah. He left it with the Banshees and 'the new John' just picked up where he left off heh. When Geordie Walker praises your sound, you are THE man.jamcat wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 9:07 pm Luca, I see on the Flanger 117 page you feature songs from Eddie Van Halen and John McGeoch.

I have read the same about Robert Smith inheriting John's MXR pedal when he joined the Banshees. In fact, if you look at the Banshees' gear, every guitarist had certain pieces in common, through John Valentine Carruthers, at least:mothra wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 6:45 pmDon't forget John McKay!! Roland JC-120
MXR Flanger
Yamaha E1005 delay
Marshall MV50
I think the band owned it and whoever was on guitar that week used it. JVC even played one of McGeoch's SG1000s.

It's funny cause I grew up as one of the "KISS" generation haha. Early guitar heroes were Page, Frehley, etc so I've always loved the Les Paul but felt like Fenders were my thing (and I could never afford one anyways). I finally gave in and got an Epiphone 60s Standard because of McKay a few years back and just dropped the money on an actual Gibson last weekend (it hurt but my god is that thing beautiful). I'm a Boss HM-2 guy but now I've been thinking about finally picking up one of those MXR Dist+ (I think thats what he used) to check it out.. If I ever trade my Marshalls for a Fender Twin though, somebody smack me..jamcat wrote: Fri Mar 07, 2025 11:20 pm I have read the same about Robert Smith inheriting John's MXR pedal when he joined the Banshees. Gibson Les Paul, MXR Distortion+, Fender Twin… that’s also the precise kit of Steve Jones when he was in the Sex Pistols. Just throw in an MXR Phase 90.mothra wrote: Sat Mar 08, 2025 3:50 pm I finally gave in and got an Epiphone 60s Standard because of McKay a few years back and just dropped the money on an actual Gibson last weekend (it hurt but my god is that thing beautiful). That’s not too surprising really, since I’m sure Steve was a preeminent influence on McKay at the time. He influenced everyone in that scene, none more than the Banshees, as Siouxsie and Severin were the core of the Bromley Contingent. Sid Vicious was even in the Banshees prior to John McKay.

Here’s a MIJ from 1981, black label, silver screw. Very good condition with images of the circuitry and serial number. Looks to be a “Holy Grail” BF-2. You’re welcome!

And here is one from July 1980(!) in very good condition. (BF-2 went into production in June 1980.) This one is perhaps the holiest of grails!
