Is there no way of scanning the wavetable internally via lfo, MSEG?

Weird

Is this basically same as Kilohearts ShaperTable?

The basic premise is the same ie. It uses a wavetable as a transfer curve for distortion but the addition of all the other effects makes it more like snapheap but with a Dawesome Twist.

The lack of modulation sources is a head scratcher to be honest.

I've been using it in Ableton using Ableton's builtin LFOs, envelope followers etc and it's fantastic. Being able to that from within the plugin itself would really elevate this, imho.

Sound and features wise it's great.

Blech, Tracktion Download Manager. Sign in three separate times to eventually get to use the demo. But that aside...

Using a wavetable for distortion isn't common but isn't super innovative either. WMD Geiger Counter has been around since 2010. Several Eurorack modules can do table lookups with an audio source instead of an oscillator, and Bitwig Grid does it easily.

So with HATE I'm more excited about the additional FX than the wavetable distortion itself. At the intro price it's worth it just for the multi-FX.

But.

1. I really HATE having the wet/dry for each additional effect on a separate page from the other controls. I get that presenting the user initially with just a preset selector and a wet/dry was supposed to simplify things, but it just makes it more awkward. These sort of effects, overall, really seem well suited to people who want to tweak everything.

2. In modular, it is a very useful technique to mix your audio signal with an LFO and *then* go into the wavetable lookup. That provides a kind of phase modulation of the wavetable. It's surprising that Hate can't do this.

3. It's a shame you can't rearrange the wavetable distortion in the chain, because compressing or filtering etc. first can be useful. You need two instances to do that.

4. Lack of modulation internally is weird (anything with distortion loves an envelope follower especially), but easily resolved with the right host.

While writing this I started patching up two sine oscillators, an LFO and Transfer (wavetable distortion) in Bitwig Grid -- instant blissful growly drones. But then I put HATE after it, killed its wavetable mix and played with its other effects and was able to take it much further. So... I think I'm going to buy it, despite my complaints.

modulation sources, or modulation within the plugin is a design choice by Dawesome. you can discuss this, with valid arguments for both sides, but the reality is: this is the plugin.

modulation within Ableton and Bitwig, and the latest Cubase (and other DAWs) is possible, without restrictions.

and of course; automation, a lost art, it seems...??

it is more than Kilohearts Shapertable; which i also have; they way you can change, dial in one which part or parts of the signal (the audio) the wavetable does its work is sublime; transient or tonal, so to say (the Punch dial), low or high frequencies, low or high amplitudes.. and other settings that are possbile make it, well... a very different approach...

and for clarity: i do like also Kilohearts Shapertable.

and then; the max 6 module that you can place after the TABLE module, will give you so many options, that surpass even the distortion realm, or within the distortion realm give a lot of new approaches...

Anything with a wavetable should have some way to modulate the wavetable built in, imho.

I don't mind the other parameters in the other modules being static but the wavetable?

It's hardly some outlandish request

You shouldn't have to rely on externals for basic functionality.

Very cool but sad there's no wavetable modulation

Seems like it would be cool and enhance the tool no ?

Dawesome stuff tends to sound very samey to me so I've avoided it. I have Love and sometimes use that one, but I made the mistake of paying a little for it. I'll wait for Hate to be a free giveaway later this year (hmmm).

Reading the blurb
Forget one-size-fits-all distortion. Drag & drop any audio file, and HATE transforms it into a custom saturation shape — so your distortion isn't just different, it's yours
Is the major selling point for me, being able to make any sound your distortion is really cool even if automation is lacking

Finally, HATE getting some recognition. Such a maligned emotion.
