Measure the aliasing of both and you'll see that for some reason the distortion aliases less than the saturation.
I keep thinking it must be a bug but stranger corners have been cut before.

No, that is not the reason why it is cheap!
It is difficult to make a demo that satisfies everyones taste, and that is able to show a huge variety of possibilities.

Nifty. I like this effect. Waveshapers in general are extremely versatile and useful. Audiodamage had the first version of a wavetable based waveshaper that I recall outside of a modular DSP program and it's a very fun way to get crazy distortion. I may give this a whirl. Easy import is always good. How are files converted to tables? How many frames per table etc? Seems odd to have skipped modulation of the wavetable position. That feature makes "extremely versatile distortion" into "batshit crazy audio destroyer". Not a huge problem if you have a flexible host, but having it built in would draw lots of users, and make far more impressive presets possible. If you do add modulation, be sure to add an envelope follower.

Love Dawesome plugins, so I will be buying Hate.

Agree that built in modulation would allow for more impressive presets, which for me, would greatly speed up happy accident discovery as I preset surf on particular wav files.

Let's not also forget that since he started doing that, the albums he's released have being doing about a thousand percent better in the charts. I don't think that's a coincidence.
