Hi @Dr.Gunjah

Thank you for your kind words and your feedback.

As you mention the delta listen, I am really wondering why this is missing in so many other plugins. It is a rather simple feature yet so powerful. Especially when combined with a mix knob, one can blend the original signal with the delta signal, which allows for some crazy processing options.

Regarding the points you mentioned: The next update for both our plugins is coming in the next few days and it contains (by some other awesome features) a lot of UI improvements. Those already include your second point.
The direct input is already on our list and will be available in a (yet unspecified) future update.

Best regards,
Simon

Hey all! We just released another free update for SLOTH, bumping it up to version 1.2.1including a few nifty features!

  • New Tooltip Style: They not only look better, they also tell if a control has multiple actions now!
  • Improved Display: We rewrote the display shader to be more in-line with our other plugins and even optimized it!
  • Parameter Smoothing: Crystal clear sound thanks to sample-accurate parameter smoothing
  • LV2 Support: As we're a strong supporter of open-source frameworks, we've added LV2 support!

On top of that, we have heavily reworked our website and switched to a new storefront called Moonbase, which allows is to embed the store directly into the website making it easier to reach your products :D

Check out SLOTH over here, and for more information about the update check out our blogpost

The new site is great, love having a login where I can view my purchased products.

Enjoying Sloth. Not something I use a lot, but when I want to replicate the transient response of a slow, transformer-based preamp, it definitely hits the mark. Also great on overly aggressive plucks. works better than a transient designer in many cases.

Looking forward to your upcoming releases.

Thanks for continually improving your plugins :tu:
The M/S + Solo feature from the last update is really cool if you have very wide percussions that need taming in the highs.

Would you care to elaborate on what this new feature means?

When it comes to VST3 plugins, parameters are updated only once per block of audio-data instead of a continuous audio-stream which can cause all sorts of unwanted glitches/artefacts. Smoothing compensates for that, allowing for a cleaner output.

A little more information can be found in the blogpost we wrote for this update. We are also working on a more detailed blogpost about the concept of Sample-Accurate-Parameter-Smoothing which other developers can use as a reference/resource :D

Ok thanks, sounds good. I'll check it soon.

One thing I've noticed with the latest version is that themes do not work anymore.
I've tried to put the sloth directory from the zip into C:\Users\Public\Documents\Darkpalace Studio\ and also C:\Users\<my user>\Documents\Darkpalace Studio\ but themes are crossed out in both the VST3 and CLAP version and can't be selected.

Whenever themes are crossed out it means that there is a version mismatch. You can easily check by opening one of the themes and taking a look at the version number which is located at the top of the file. It has to match with the version of the plugin installed, which can be found on the bottom-left side of the footer.

Make sure that the path for the themes is

Code: Select all

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Darkpalace Studio\[pluginName]\themes
And that when extracting the new files, that you either overwrite the existing ones, or first delete them before extracting to make sure the new ones get placed. If you're still running into issues you could shoot us an email at info@darkpalace.studio and we'll go in-depth with helping

Ok my bad, it was user error on my side. I was fooled by the german windows version which turns "public/documents" into "öffentlich/öffentliche Dokumente" :x

Thanks!

Maybe it would make sense to put the manual or at least a small "WHERE TO PUT STUFF" readme into the zip file for scatterbrained people like me

Funnily enough, section 5 - Configuration, of the manuals talks about the paths where the files should be placed. It seems in this case that it's yet another funny Windows thing, showing the folder name as 'Public Documents' instead of 'Documents', but if you check the actual path however it resolves to 'public/documents' instead of 'public/public documents'. :D

Great to see that Sloth get constant updates. Still haven't bought it though :) I wonder how Sloth is doing on the main bus. There is a demo track on the website but leaning towards being an obvious effect; I wonder how a usage for mastering would sound like. Do you think Sloth is suitable for subtle mastering duties?
It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Post

I used it before the final limiter and controlled its behavior with airwindows meter.

What you tried to achieve? Was it successful? Why did you used the meter?

No. Honestly this notarization stuff feels like a massive extortion scheme to me. "Nice piece of software you have there. Would be a shame if people wouldn't be able to run it properly. Be so kind and pay us 99$ a year, will ya.". At least people can easily bypass the actual issue (the blocking software in the OS) by typing a command in the terminal. :tu:
Glad you changed your mind on this, just picked it up. Very cool and unique effect, well designed UI, great work!

I've not tried it on a master, but it can be very subtle and add some weight, like an input transformer. Kind of reminds me of how the Vertigo compressor sounds without doing any gain reduction. Makes me think they're using a similar algorithm to replicate the hardware unit.
