There are dozens of free ones to try before you buy something。
Bedroom Producers Blog is a great place to search for free plugins, KVR too of course, it has a marketplace page with free plugins too.
Add to this a nice free reverb and free delay and you will have lots of fun.

Kontakt 8 Player comes with Piano Uno, which sounds nice.

For pop or rock, you can't go wrong with the DX-7 piano patches, which can be had for free with the Dexed plugin. With the right preset and some processing you can get very close to that 80s Yamaha CP70 electric grand sound (think Simple Minds' Alive and Kicking).
CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, Moved to Reason and Rack Extensions exclusively (from Reaper and VSTs) several years ago.

Perhaps NumaPlayer (studiologic - free) or boz pianos.

Grab a copy of Decent Sampler (it’s free), and search for “decent sampler” “piano” (or whatever search terms you prefer) - typical search engines should thereby cough up a bunch of free sampled piano instruments for that plugin.

So if by specifying “cheap” you’re also open to “free”, have at.

edit: I think it might even come with at least one piano instrument. But anyway, there are others out there, if you’re curious, or the default doesn’t do it for you.

The free version of Hammersmith, the Memoir Grand piano, and the 1920s Steinway that comes free with Soundpaint (also free) are great free ones IMO.

For an upright, you can get Sampletekk's Rain Piano on sale very inexpensively and is the one of the best IMO; for free, try VCSL Keys.

Check the buy and sell forum for XLN Audio Studio Grand. I have seen some selling it for $5.

I would suggest 2 options:
- Monster Piano v3 from Agus Hardimann
-Any Yamaha Style Piano from Pianobook for Decent Sampler
