I am glad he did not "disclude" Intel mac... although "old" and not as fast as Apple Silicon, Intel macs are still quite fast and formidable especially in audio work. There are many in use and I bet if you compare the cost of maintaining an Intel code-base it makes sense to retain Intel customers, despite being a bit of a pain. It would be interesting to see some data on that!swilow11 wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 7:37 pm Steve Duda post talking about the reported cpu issues some are having: https://www.reddit.com/r/serum/comments ... _content=2

It is by no means a rare function in my experience with software synths at least. Synths like Hive2 do it but iirc one needs to set the cutoff at somewhere like '60' whatever that number actually represents.
Why are people are acting like Serum 2 cannot do this? It can.
On Serum 2 hit the keyboard icon next to the filter and type 440 into the oscillator filter. That's it.
Perfectly pitch tracked filter.
Edited because I'm an idiot.

I think we’re all talking about different things. It’s not about tuning an oscillator, but about tuning a filter (to be used as an oscillator).kraster wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 1:07 pmswilow11 wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 8:49 pm I think that synths with a resonant comb filter really need to implement pitch locked keytracking if you want to do physical modelling stuff. Just activate the noise oscillator only, route it to a comb filter, activate key tracking and crank up the resonance. You’ll have to set the filter base frequency manually at some random value to use it in a tonal context, which is a PITA imo.

Typo.
I meant type 440 into the filter not oscillator.
We are talking about the same thing.
It definitely works.

Interesting, it doesn’t work for me. Setting the filter cutoff to 440 Hz produces an A when I play a C. To get the correct pitch I have to use e.g. 121, 233 or 444 Hz as base frequency.kraster wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 1:47 pm I meant type 440 into the filter not oscillator.

Maybe it’s just a bug? I’m on macOS and Live/VST3.

I wasn't saying Serum 2 can't do this. I was merely adding my own little piece of commentary about keytracking. I haven't really used this function on S2 yet.kraster wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 1:07 pmswilow11 wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 8:49 pm I think that synths with a resonant comb filter really need to implement pitch locked keytracking if you want to do physical modelling stuff. I never used Serum before, but have seen the first version in several sound design tutorials. So I have installed the demo. The UI is great (but right click menues are not my taste) and the FX are stellar. Sound is very good, but it's not better than my other big synths - Falcon, Pigments and Zebra. Right now I don't think I will buy it, at least not because of its synth engine. For hundreds of preset packs or as a Multi FX plugin - yes, but for patching, I'm not so sure. I have expected something greater.

Honestly, I think Serums main benefit is workflow wise. Of course, any synth can become easy to use with enough experience, but for me, Serum has always just been intuitive and quick. Many synths can do the same things, and probably better, but if I havr a sound in mind, getting that into my ears is quickest with Serum. I've got basically all the monster synths, Pigments, Phaseplant, Massive X, Falcon, Current etc but find myself using Serum as much as all of those synths combined.

^ I think the workflow of Current is quick and efficient.

Oh yeah, agreed. Probably better than Serum in many ways. It is sort of a hybrid between Serum and Pigments in layout terms. I think Serum probably paved the way for it though. But yeah, Current is super quick and intuitive and despite many similarities, it has its own place in my setup. I am deciding whether to sell either Pigments or Current because they overlap so much, and while Pigments has stuff like the additive and new modal engine, Current is more likely to stay in my setup because of its ease of use and sheer sonic quality. But a big factor is how less ubiquitous Current is- not as many are using it so I can trick myself into thinking I'm doing something unique with it.xx JPRacer xx wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 9:49 pm ^ I think the workflow of Current is quick and efficient.
All that aside, I actually really love Falcon, always get a sense of possibility when I open it despite it having been seemingly designed by aliens.

Question: I'm recording midi from Rhythmiser into Serum 2 clip launcher. I'm using note length randomisation but the clip launcher seems to be quantising note length. I'm sure it's possible to change this but how?

Anybody else with the problem of a black screen when installing only the AU version without the VST3 version on a Mac Silicon Sequioa Logic latest version?
With VST3 version installed in parallel everything's fine...

The AU and AAX versions need the VST3.. I think even at installation it tells you they are wrappers. (that is they need the vst3 to work properly)
