Official Serum 2 thread!

I don't know if this was asked/discussed before as I didn't read quite the whole thread.
There's a discrepancy with the standalone version of Serum 2: on Xfer website it says that Serum 2 is "Available as VST3, AU, AAX 64bit" so no standalone version, but on Splice, where you can rent-to-own Serum 2 it says "Available as Standalone, VST, AU, and AAX". So which one is it? Does it have a standalone version or not? Could it be that only the rent-to-own version has the standalone option? I highly doubt it.

i have both Serum 1 and 2.. I don't have a standalone version or even heard of a standalone version till your post.
I suspect it is a splice mistake.

YES! I love the FX in Current but the reverb is one of the worse ever! Hope they do something about it... but then they'd break compatibility with previous patches.kraster wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:25 pm Outside of the reverb I think Current has the best FX suite of all of them.
LOVE Avenger, my most powerful synth. I think the FXs are even better than Current! Those new Ruta FXs are some of the best! Then there's Avenger which is also another beast of a synth. A bit more complex and less immediate but enormously capable.

You misquote. I didn't say that, swilow11 did. (though looking at some Falcon screenshots I 100% agree with him)zerocrossing wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 4:54 pm...swilow11 wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 10:02 pmxx JPRacer xx wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 9:49 pmAll that aside, I actually really love Falcon, always get a sense of possibility when I open it despite it having been seemingly designed by aliens.

A Current FX plugin would be fantastic, but unfortunately will never happen since it would cannibalize sales of their individual effect plugins.kraster wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:25 pm Outside of the reverb I think Current has the best FX suite of all of them.

Hard disagree. I still use Strobe a bit, and I never really find it easy or intuitive to use.Iva wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 7:41 amthe first synth to use the sort of drag & drop style of modulation assignment in a good way was DCAM Synth Squadzerocrossing wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 4:50 pm Serum was really the first synth to use the sort of drag & drop style of modulation assignment in a good way.

Sure, but if you’re going for the sound of a Minimoog in software, why not use the UAD emulation, and get the closest sound possible? If you want a poly version, Legend or Minimonsta will be better. It just seems a waste of effort to get a pretty good emulation out of MSoundFactory, when it can do so much more.Held wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 10:48 amI think the "mini mono" instrument in MSoundFactory sounds pretty good.zerocrossing wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:22 am It would be stupid to build a Minimoog type instrument in MSoundFactory or Falcon and even if you did it wouldn't sound as much like a Minimoog as the worst stand alone Minimoog emulation plugin.

I think they should add a decent convolution reverb to Current and keep the other one for creative uses. My big complaint with it is how loud and noisy it sounds even at very low wet settings. It is so oddly unusable compared to how good the other fx are.xx JPRacer xx wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 3:32 pmYES! I love the FX in Current but the reverb is one of the worse ever! Getting more off topic, but I actually often find myself using Falcon with some of the new analogue modelled filters and saturation to make decent analogue poly style patches, despite owning V Collection, Monark/Super 8, Tal stuff etc. Use the drunk lfo lightly on a few parameters for analogue instability and it sounds awesome, despite almost definitely being a 'misuse' of Falcon. Not going to sound like a Moog but can be made to sound lovely and organic.zerocrossing wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 6:14 pmSure, but if you’re going for the sound of a Minimoog in software, why not use the UAD emulation, and get the closest sound possible? Ultimately, it doesn't matter what you use to get what you are looking for, eh? As long as you get there.swilow11 wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 10:52 pmGetting more off topic, but I actually often find myself using Falcon with some of the new analogue modelled filters and saturation to make decent analogue poly style patches, despite owning V Collection, Monark/Super 8, Tal stuff etc. Use the drunk lfo lightly on a few parameters for analogue instability and it sounds awesome, despite almost definitely being a 'misuse' of Falcon. I always thought NI massive 1 did great with the drag and drop modulation. It was one of the first to do it as well (if my brain is working properly). All the fxpansion synth squad v1 and v2 stuff still used their little matrix that was basically text and tricky to read by sight which made it less intuitive than it could have been.zerocrossing wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 5:18 pmHard disagree. I don't really have a problem right clicking to add modulation or going to a dedicated mod matrix section and I prefer it over many implementations that try and do drag and drop as lots of them end up visually confusing. It's very handy when you want to set up lots of modulation quickly for a performance patch etc, but I'll usually end up fine tuning things in the matrix page and I don't appreciate it when there isn't more in depth editing available.
Anyway serum 1 and 2 do quite well with their modulation system.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Indeed. And as long as it's enjoyable, it's all good.zerocrossing wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 12:11 amUltimately, it doesn't matter what you use to get what you are looking for, eh?
