Hi,

I would like to know what Sampler can embeds sample files inside the .preset file (not in a folder beside the preset file).

I know the Bitwig Sampler does this... also Serum/Serum2 does this.... what else ?

Thanx

You can save Kontakt instruments as "monoliths" (NKX files) containing the sample data. However, I can't remember whether you can still edit the samples after saving the instrument as a monolith. From what I remember, the monolith format is mostly used when developing commercial sample libraries.

Renoise Redux and TAL-Sampler also do this. And Phase Plant.

In Serum 2 you can embedded e.g. manually loaded wavetables and samples into the preset... but this could be not the best way to handle it, depending on the size of the sample.

Post

Tone2 products save them in the presets.

I think HISE does this. Are you asking because you want to make a sampler?

Post

TAL Sampler can do it, but I seem to recall the user guide recommending you don't for whatever reason.

No HISE based instruments only save the referencee to the sample not the sample data itself inside presets

Falcon can do.

Hell, Old Muon DS-404 does that... Saves in the preset file plus it can be converted to other format using ESC also it tries to get host to save DS-404s file inside the host song file... this works with some hosts not others>>>

Does it in old Aodix 2.34... Embeds DS-404 preset file right into the song file (.adx) it don't get any cleaner than that-

Kontakt does it.

Edit: I don't know anything about the ".preset" format. I'd think most actual samplers would not want to mirror data all over the place, but smaller data sets like wavetables would be easily embedded without wasting tons of space.

Many of them "can" do this. My serious question I want to understand, is "why" would you want to do this? Certainly not for archive purposes... What would you hope to achieve with using a monolithic format? IMHO, the only thing worse than a monolithic format, is an encrypted monolithic format. There is no future-proofing when using such a format. The most important resource a person has with sampling is the actual samples. How will you use your sampled instruments if your chosen sampler vendor goes out of business and you can't reauthorize your sampler? If you have your samples, you can move freely to a different sampler and not miss a beat. You do realize that you can archive (Zip) a format that uses a preset file and a folder, and the only difference between this and a monolithic format would be that you can still access your samples.

because i like to colaborate with friends and it makes it a lot easier. also, i reorganise my sample folders a lot and ableton live is terrible at replacing missing audio if it finds more than one file with the same name.

a cool things about trackers is that they all save the audio inside the project file.
