I'm not sure why some are recommending no pre-amp as the two I'm choosing from are high-rated.

Then apparently I should explain myself.

I'm of the opinion that in making music and doing everything all by yourself in a bedsit studio, there are quite a lot of challenges. Most of them have everything to do with skills and nothing to do with (quality of) gear. If you have nothing but a neutral but good-enough preamp built in your audio interface or mixer, then I'm pretty sure you can make 'professional' recordings with them. If it doesn't become a chart buster, then it's not because you did not use that specific boutique preamp.

Then there is that effect which I cannot deny is real: the presence of a shiny new thing in your room which promises everything will be so much better from now on... It makes you fly.

If you don't recognise that even remotely, then just don't pay attention to me then.

Agree 100%. The choice of micpre is amongst the least important decision you'll ever make.

All I wanted was an opinion about which pre-amp is preferred . . . Universal Audio 710TF Microphone Preamp vs. Summit Audio 2BA-221. Bert, I love you brother, but surely having and using a good preamp is better than not having and not using. I got an extra few bucks and wanted to upgrade my vocal recording. Pre-amp and Mic seem like the obvious upgrades. Well, this thread has not helped me to decide which of those two would be a better choice. oooooohhhhhhhh
