Does anyone NOT like Diva?

I should check out Repro5 sometime. I heard it was a more 'aggressive' sounding synth than Diva and since I use Serum and Phaseplant a lot and for vintage sounds was worried there might be too much overlap. The one thing I like about Diva is it keeps me in that 'big warm analog' box.

What's different about the modulation from Diva? I looked at the screenshots on the u-he site, but couldn't really get a feel for it.

You could check out the demo of Repro-1/5. There are no functional limitations to it. I'm not sure if Repro is more "aggressive" per-se. It has tape saturation and a per-voice distortion (Repro-5) and a wavefolder (Repro-1), which Diva doesn't have - so it -can- sound more aggressive than Diva, but doesn't have to.

My subjective impression is that it's even a notch above Diva in sound quality. Maybe because it's newer, but maybe also because the included effects and mod-matrix possibilities are a bit beyond what Diva offers today. On the other hand, Repro isn't modular like Diva and you have to like the Sequential Prophet sound it emulates. I personally love it very much, so I prefer it over Diva actually.

The new mod-slots are like those in Hive 2. They are completely free in letting you choose which mod source modulates which targets. You can also specify slopes, quantify etc.:

I do also, would be interesting instead of making an upgraded Diva 2 or whatever if they made a Moog inspired Synth, or an Oberheim inspired Synth, or a Roland Jupiter inspired Synth and gave it the Repro treatment adding extra things not in the originals. There are all sorts of things that are in Diva and Zebra that would be cool

I actually like the modular approach / idea of Diva. If they (like Urs hints at?) add more modules, maybe also FX (?) and flexible mod matrix, I'm sure it would be awesome

Something that'd add a LOT of value to Diva (and the other u-he products that use the same patch browser design), it'd be adding the ability to load an existing preset at random by clicking one button The browser is so well-thought-out otherwise, but lacks this feature which would make it a ton easier to discover presets from the vast 3rd-party gallery, and traverse in non-linear, non-A-Z/category order. What a gem that'd be.

Other noteworthy instruments & effects that have a wealth of presets have already included this, such as Arturia's line, Devious Machines Infiltrator, Spectrasonics Omnisphere has its own SHUFFLE... and just recently I was playing with some of my fave GForce Software synths, and they too have a Random button! It's agnostically excellent for any synth that boasts 100s, nay, 1000s of patches.

It's really, really been missing from u-he for years, and would add so much creative serendipity.

Yes. In Omnisphere this function is gold, especially with the amount of extra packs we have, when you just want to explore randomly.

I like it but I'm not as excited about it as everyone else seems to be. I prefer the filter models in bazille and really everything else about bazille. I was actually pretty anti diva when it first came around due to the CPU that it took up at the time.

Joke aside, it's really difficult not to like Diva. Sound quality AND multithreading, all in one package. GUI might be better, but it works for me.
When I think about it, all I need is Diva, Spire & Triton. I think that's under 1GB on my SSD. 24 threads IvyBridge and that's it!

I don't actively dislike Diva, and have nothing negative to say about its quality etc.

But VAs are not a category of synths that I find interesting, unless there's a special twist (and even then, I use them rarely). When I tried it back in the day, nothing convinced me differently.

So my only problem with the question in the thread is the assumption that everyone loves VAs

To the contrary, it was very enjoyable work!

What was stressful were the first two or three years of online discussion about CPU, but foremost about sound quality. Took a while to settle...

I think that at this moment Diva is one of the best analogue emulation. Sounds so musical. Love it!
