You know what I love about this video? He didn't ask me to subscribe at the start or during the point of the video. Aside from the BS of claiming to do it all ITB - this vid is worth your time if you want the "secret sauce" to writing worthwhile music.

Yes, I suppose the gear is nice but more importantly is to know what the "secret sauce" to good songwriting is. That's the main point of the video. I feel the info can make most here, if they're willing, to finally write something that people outside of KVR would actually like to listen to.
I think finally, KVRists hava a chance to come out of the bedroom.

I'm a bit older than that guy & probably started in music close to the same time... Some good points but there WAS also the SOUND that was better back then with the preponderance of TUBE amps & TUBE stereo consoles which sound way better listening thru than the solid state shit plus everything was manufactured much better & built to last back then not todays 'throw-away powerhouse' with built-in 'planned obsolescence' so you will have to buy new by some date otherwise something will happen...
Also those who did music from back then KNOW music as nowadays someone buys FL Studio & creates some soundFX & strings them together with 'big fat sounds' & calls it music... There was not all the stupid-shit genre's back then nothing was 'watered-down'...
I woulda had his kinda money to spend on equipment but unfortunately FAMILY will spend it for you...

Analog is better because you gotta work for it, man! Meanwhile, people really seem to ignore how much utterly terrible music was made back in the glory days of the analog grindset.
the whole video basically comes down to: take breaks and practice more. you don't need analog for that, you just need half a brain.
he also says "analog is a reliable system. you don't have to keep replacing parts" but like... studios had dedicated engineers to do exactly that. "computers are just not as reliable" is the take of someone who doesn't know how to maintain a computer
get off my lawn indeed

My father likes to say, "life is full of trade-offs." Certainly true in this old analogue vs digital debate. Our collective incapacity for nuance is the greatest impediment to human progress is what I like to say.
If every KVR member wrote one review a year we'd have 1340 reviews each day!

The video that the OP sites is the perfect example of clickbait entertainment. It doesn’t explore new ideas and nothing is learned. YouTube is filled with wannabe pro YouTubers who will do anything for your views.

I wouldn't classify Billy Hume as a "wannabe pro" thoughConstructed Identity wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 7:26 pm YouTube is filled with wannabe pro YouTubers who will do anything for your views.

Analogue isn't better, the title was click bait.
Feel better now?
How original

A clickbait title; imagine that.
If you can get out of stupid mode for a few and pay attention you would read IT'S NOT ABOUT THE SOUND on the thumbnail which should get your antennae engaged.
But no, instead you resort to the typical bullshit of finding fault just so you can flatter yourself with a KVR post.
Hey, you do you. Continue on writing songs that nobody outside you cares about.
