There is no doom scrolling through samples/presets with XO. Playbeat is best for glitch and ongoing randomness. Drum Designer great for granular editing. But Triaz? I don't know what it is, but I just can't get into it. It has flashy presets, but who is using preset beats for a song they actually want to release?!
It’s a layered drum sampler.

Also, I think Atlas > XO (XO copied Atlas). But both are excellent at using large libraries of samples.

Like all presets they are somewhere between a demo and a starting point and in that respect I think they work well.

As I (and others) have said before, what would be really useful is a way of taking an element from a preset and importing it into another beat. There are ways to do it but it's not that intuitive and the workflow is clumsy.

Edit : I'm stupid. Just sat down and spent more time on it and now the envelope timing seems to be cooperating.

Not sure there's any other way of doing this but you can edit the envelope directly in Triaz using the adsr controls so shouldn't be too hard if I understand you correctly

Did anyone ever use the randomize pattern option? Everytime I use it, Triaz hangs and I see the ball of doom (macOS). There's nothing I can do, except forcing Ableton to quit. Just installed the latest version 1.1.1, no change.

My Macbook is stuck on Monterey (12.7.6). I don't have Triaz installed on it, but I can try it, if you think it will be helpful.

Have you tried the Kontakt version?

This is now the first time I've used Triaz in a full production and it's been "a learning experience" but I'm hopefully over the final hurdle.

Having got everything sorted with different patterns and midi notes triggering the different sequences during the song I thought I'd move on to the final stage of editing and mixing down.

For info, I'm using Studio One 6 so not sure how much of this is specific to that DAW.

The first thing I tried to do was export the sequences as midi and copy it on to the track for a final bit of midi tweaking. This just didn't work 100% with various errors, glitches and omissions in the exported midi. That was a bit disappointing tbh but decided I would just go straight to audio and export it that way.

This also proved incredibly problematic and I'm unclear whether the issues were something to do with Studio One or something to do with Triaz. What I tried was exporting the Triaz as stems using the multi-channel out so it created different tracks for each "lane" in Triaz. Like the midi this just didn't work 100% so I then tried to use the export in Triaz but that was a pain because each sequence only exports the lanes that it uses so it was really awkward.

I did eventually get the stem export to work after many hours of trial and error but I'm not exactly sure what I did to make it work. I think it was because I didn't have host sync activated in Triaz but it only seemed to affect certain sequences and certain lanes so I'm not 100% sure.

Triaz remains a bit of a pain to use tbh but I think overall worthwhile

dastewart - I haven't had any problems with exporting MIDI or stems in Studio One v7 (Windows).
Don't know if the version of Studio One matters. Could be worth dropping support an email.

No issues with midi export on Reaper and Cubase 14

Post

No issues with MIDI export on Bitwig 5.1.9.

I have very few complaints about Triaz. One thing I would like to see would be the ability to save individual drum presets.

Thanks to all for the responses, esp slackhead who's also on S1. I'll go back and try again to see if it was something I was doing wrong or if there's a bug that needs reporting.

I’ve stopped using Triaz for a while now until they get the intelligent, 3rd party sample scanning implemented. Weird how it’s taken so long.
I’ve gone back to using XO and Atlas instead as there’s a better recipe for inspiration with how I personally use these types of sample based drum machine tools with my sample collection.

I've been using a combination of XO and Triaz.
XO to find the sounds and to try out basic patterns and then move the samples across to Triaz and work from there. Easy enough to do.
It will be good if Triaz can sort out sample scanning / catogorisation but for now the sequencing, layering and mixing functionality makes me happy to continue to use it.

Good idea, will give that approach a shot. Thanks!

I really wish that you could drag and drop samples from Triaz (or any of these drum machine plugins) directly into your DAW DIRECTLY from the sample browser AND the selected kit.
