When I get around to it I'll see what I can get from ChatGPT. I figure the more clever the idea the more ideal result for some stuff and ChatGPT is a great education facility. You can even ask it what to ask I suppose or how to ask. Neat!IvyBirds wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 3:02 amI just asked it your question this was the resultStartMenu wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 2:36 am Oh yeah I just found this thread almost forgot it. Can you use ChatGPT easily to get deep ideas on things like patching Modular Sequences similar to classic ambient artists in VCV Rack or another plugin? Or can ChatGPT accept detailed requests for patch ideas in things like Reason 13 Combinators? Maybe a request to modify/add to ideas to further shape the 1st concept?
"Absolutely — ChatGPT is great for both of those use cases. Here’s how you can approach each one and what I can do for you:"
Then it asked what modules you have
Then it gave a very long and detailed example of both scenarios to long to post here
I have been asking all kinds of weird musical scenarios, studio setups, patch ideas etc and it has been able to answer every single one.
I don't know but at this point I can only assume someone on the development team had to be either a musician or figured having it learn about music and modern music production would be helpful for some purpose

Aside from my other posts can someone tell me if AI Assistance is scheduled to help with modular patches and things like artist copying for private listening? In theory artists don't want their work mimicked. But... I sure don't know how to do it on my own.

"make a 12 hour long Ambient project with 16 tracks of MIDI using 16 custom patches from 16 different Arturia V Collection instruments all in the key if D Minor as it's the saddest of all keys"
It spat out a MIDI file and a list of the 16 Synths along with the patch files for all 16 of them
I then asked it to come up with a system to control all of that using four Novation Launch Control XLs in gig performer and it did that to
Mind blowing, I am trying to come up with as many crazy scenarios as I can think of and it just does it.

I use chat GPT all the time but it didn't occur to me to actually use it for to program synths. What patches are you you asking it to recreate like bell sounds instrument sounds? What about random Goa trance sounds?

Yeah, mind blown https://chatgpt.com/share/680089f2-c1ec ... e326cf2489
At first just gave me the plain old boring detune some saw waves filter cut off 24% low pass, yada yada. Then I said those amateur can you do any better, then it gave some wild stuff I'm not really sure I even I understood as a sound designer like crazy micro tuning stuff

Ah, got it — you're looking for pro-level Goa trance synthesis, not the beginner blueprint. Let's go deep then — into waveforms, modulation routing, harmonic content sculpting, and psychoacoustic effect layering. Goa trance isn’t just “acidy squelch” — it's a sacred geometry of sound wrapped in spiraling motion. Let’s design a Goa trance lead that breathes, writhes, and pierces.
---
Advanced Goa Trance Lead Programming
Synth Recommendation: Vital (or Serum)
Because we need:
Complex modulation routing
Wavetable & VA hybrid control
Voice control for mono/legato glide
Formant and phase warping
Filter keytracking + combs + drive stages
---
PART 1: TONE ARCHITECTURE
1. Oscillator Design (Harmonic Skeleton)
Oscillator 1: Saw wave, then warp it with Bend+ or Sync. This creates shifting partials when modulated.
Oscillator 2: Custom wave or square — phase-shifted for stereo trickery (pan this one opposite Osc 1).
Oscillator 3 (optional): Sub-octave sine with FM, just 10–15% mix — adds body.
> Goa trance lead timbre is about controlled harmonic chaos — you want slightly unstable, ever-morphing overtones.
Phase Inversion Trick:
Slightly invert phase of one oscillator and delay it by a few samples. Result: chorus-like motion without FX — pure psychoacoustic spice.
---
PART 2: MODULATION MATRIX (The Soul)
1. Filter Section
Dual filter: Serial routing.
Filter 1: 24dB LP with resonance modulated by envelope
Filter 2: Formant or comb filter for vocal, alien texture (swept via LFO or mod wheel)
2. Envelopes
Amp Envelope: Fast attack, medium decay, zero sustain, long release
Filter Envelope: Steep decay curve (modulates cutoff + resonance + maybe wavetable pos)
Aux Envelope: Modulates phase warp or drive amount (adds aggression at note-on)
3. LFOs (movement)
LFO1: Slow sine modulating oscillator pitch (±5 cents) — subtle vibrato.
LFO2: Triangle or sample-and-hold modulating filter cutoff or resonance
LFO3: Steps or saw controlling wavetable position for rhythm-locked morphing
4. Velocity & Aftertouch
Velocity: controls filter cutoff and attack time
Aftertouch: controls resonance or comb filter mix — now you can ride it like a theremin.
---
PART 3: PORTAMENTO & VOICING
Mono Legato Mode
Glide Time: around 80–160ms for Goa-style glissando
Set priority to “last” so overlapping notes glide
---
PART 4: EFFECTS RACK (Psyche Weaponization)
1. Pre-Delay Saturation
Tube or wavefolding saturation — adds upper harmonics
2. Delay (essential)
Ping pong or tape delay
1/8D or 3/16 time
Feedback around 40–60%
Modulate delay time subtly with LFO for smear
3. Reverb
Medium plate or spacey hall, 20% wet
Pre-delay: 20ms to retain transient attack
High-passed at 500Hz, low-passed at 7kHz
4. EQ
High shelf boost at 8–10kHz
Cut low mids (300–500Hz) to clear mud
5. Optional: Comb Filter Sweep
Sweep with mod wheel or LFO — alien voice vibes
---
PART 5: Advanced Psychoacoustics
1. Microtuning
Use Just Intonation or Shruti scale variant
Slightly off-standard pitch makes the lead mystical
2. Spatial Phase Delay
Duplicate synth lane, detune 5 cents, delay by 10ms L/R
Pan hard — binaural pulse effect
3. Note Triggers
Automate octave jumps, note repeats, and reverse glides (MIDI tricks)
Use modulation step sequencer to simulate mind-bending phrasing
---
Would You Like:
A custom patch file?
A specific genre flavor? (Old-school Goa, modern hybrid with psytrance, Astral Projection style?)
An audio demo or MIDI riff?

UPDATE: I tried asking ChatGPT's chat "enter any question there is about anything there is" bot about an artist and although the information was detailed and fun it gave me really limited suggestions about what plugin synths to use. I'm aware the synths can't "mimick" Atlas Dei and Electric Ladder songs. Vital and SurgeXT????StartMenu wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 4:04 am Aside from my other posts can someone tell me if AI Assistance is scheduled to help with modular patches and things like artist copying for private listening? Nothing wrong with it. You could find that information with hours of searching and reading, or you can ask ChatGPT to find it for you and summarize it. Then of course you still have to try it, tweak it, and maybe change the prompts or whatever, it's a glorified search engine. I found a good paper once (after a lot of searching and skim reading) on the ratios between snare harmonics which was quite useful, but I didn't write it down and couldn't find it again. ChatGPT pulled up the info for me in a few seconds and now it's recorded in the chat history. And yes, every daw will probably have AI built in soon imo, at a minimum as first support option.

Nice. Do you use any specific GPT models for MIDI creation? I’ve never managed to generate a working MIDI file in ChatGPT. It always outputs empty download links or attempts to connect to external services.IvyBirds wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 4:38 amI just asked it toStartMenu wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 4:01 am

Mentioned this in the Arturia thread, but I've asked ChatGPT to provide a formula for use in Serums wavetanle editor based on my description of a particular timbre. A lot of gibberish that didn't work until it did and it was very close to what I wanted. It also explains its reasoning so if you're interested in learning, ChatGPT is a very useful tool.
