Tracktion BioTek 3

For me, Biotek is not so much excellence in individual categories, but the sum of them. For me, Biotek swims in Halion and Falcon Territory, but without the complicated and unintuitive operation of the two. I had a good look at Biotekt yesterday and was impressed by how intuitive it is to use. I think the workflow is great for the complexity it offers.
Not all that glitters is golden, but the sum of the individual parts is a first-class basis for your own creations. Layer concept, granular, FM light etc... and an extremely deep modulation matrix are just some of the things I appreciate. MPE works perfectly here (Live 12).
But maybe it's also a question of generation whether Biotek appeals to you. I am the (estimated) age of Wolfram Franke, the programmer of Biotek, and maybe our mindset is a bit out of date, who knows. On the other hand, dull copies of analog synths from the 70s still seem to do good business.
Biotekt is not an instant gratification synth, no question. I also think that the presets are tailored to a target group that is not necessarily Biotek's clientele. I see Biotek more in the field of composition/sound design and less as an EDM synth. Biotek is an intelligent tool and not a "target group synthesizer".

I remember the outrage when biotek 1 was released , where only a handfull of parameters were exposed .
I did enjoy the sound of biotek 2 (wolfram Franke btw
) but didn't really need it , and I am not sure I'd need Bio-3

I was able to resist hitting the buy button until the GASsy feeling passed:Funky40 wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 2:11 am it´s not the sounds i use, it´s not the music i listen to in private, but i very much like what i hear in that demo.
edit: crap. i was overexaggerating and stepped into the "shiny new thing/update" trap.
The update is just cosmetics. a wasted $49, sorta.
but i like some of the sounds. so, just a 50/50 waste. sorta.![]()
I picked up Biotek 2 awhile back for only $24. I was a little sticker-shocked when I saw the intro price for the upgrade was nearly $50. Dug a bit deeper trying to figure out what had been done to make the upgrade so desirable. Other than perhaps less CPU hungry, looks to be a UI overhaul and 300 presets. Not sure if anything has been added or improved in terms of sonic capabilities. I decided there was no rush, the upgrade price will probably be less at some point in the future, plus I can play around with the demo to see if it is something I must upgrade.

Does the updated granular gui give you a better visual indication of what where in the audio waveform the granular is being applied, like many other granular synths do now? But apparently they didn't add any features to the granular engine?

Biotek SHINES in mixing samples and X/Y mixing between the Sample and the Synthesis. The quicker UI makes this even better.
Most people don't use samples with Biotek.....

Bitwig is my DAWs and UHe and Tracktion Synths are my Bae. I maybe buy one synth a year. REMEMBER SELF just one synth a year!

I caved and bought the update - very pleased and surprised to find a patch that is a homage to Luciano Berio - well done Tracktion SD team!

Tracktion: "the granular GUI has been updated and general fixes/refinements were made. We'll be rolling out some additional granular features very soon"
In response to a comment on this video:
Interesting, but I'd like to see (and hear!) them before upgrading.

Hi, did you get an answer from Traktion guys? I've the same issue..rl wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2024 5:14 pm Unfortunately Biotek 3 demo as a VST3 crashes on Linux. Biotek 2 in VST2 format runs fine. I've sent a crash report to support. Let's see...

Hi Guys,
does anybody of you use Biotek3 not only as preset hopper?
Are you really using it as sound design synth?

You use single samples or .sf2? What's your workflow?mtelesha wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2024 5:26 am Biotek SHINES in mixing samples and X/Y mixing between the Sample and the Synthesis. The quicker UI makes this even better.

I really like the "analog" samples included in F.'em's VCFM pack.
I want to integrate samples into my sound design with both synths, more, moving forward.

$12 Sound pack, too...
(Wild that when Biotek 1 first came out, the packs were $50!).
BTW, here is a 10 video playlist of sound design videos posted by Tracktion. Might be useful for someone out there.
