VST3 Wrapper

I'm looking for a VST3 wrapper, can't seem to find anything except VPlayer, which isn't what I'm after.
Specifically, I'm after a VST2.4 and VST3 to VST3 wrapper. I know it seems odd, but I have good reason, well, if the idea works that is.

There are a few plugins, both VST2.4 and VST3 that crash or just don't work in my DAW, but do work in others. It's not that my DAW is not good enough, it's that it is simply sticking to the book. Reaper for example has workarounds for all sorts of things to get VST'2 to work or not crash or whatever. So the idea is, that if I can find a VST host that can be used as a bridge, then I can use these plugins in my DAW.

I also, tried Element, but can't get it to output anything!

I have tried Reaper, on many occasions, but never really get on with it. Though honestly, I can't be bothered to put the effort in to learn another DAW! Not just laziness, personal issues.

So, anyway, does anyone know of a super duper wrapper that can do this?

Thanks :tu:

I'm right with you in that I've been looking for a VST3 wrapper so that when VST2.4 finally is totally unsupported, I can take those few plugins I have that from companies that have gone belly-up years ago and still have use of them. The plugin I worry the most about is Humanoid Sound Systems' Enzyme. While there is another synth out there (Fellusive's Nettle freebie) that is also based on Scanned Synthesis, Enzyme is quite unique in what it is capable of. Some/most of the "gnarly" textures that it is capable of can be replicated in Generate, Nettle, WaveRazor, and Raw 2, but there are textures that remain elusive. So, a VST3 wrapper would be most helpful.

BTW, besides Nettle there is also a freebie available for Pendulate (Generate's little brother). If you purchase anything at Plugin Botique this month, you also can get a free license for MiniRaze, which is kind of an GIU adaptation of WaveRazor.

Blue Cat's Patchwork should work.

It does look good for this (I'm assuming that default configuration is VST3.) $99 is a bit steep for something to use as just a wrapper, though I see it can do a lot more than that.

Thanks for the suggestion!

No reason element won't work for this.

Yeah blue cats a bit outta my price range.

I can't seem to get element to work. It doesn't react to midi even after 'wiring' it up.

KV elements works fine for me with vst3 plugins in Orion Daw. I connect the midi in to the plugin I use in it then connect audio out from the plugin to KV elements audio out. Likewise if using KV elements effects plugin attach audio wires to audio in on vst plugin then to audio out. Hope that helps. Also I had to scan plugins when setting up KV elements.

Thanks for the tip. I had tried that, but it didn't work, no idea why!

Have you tried Carla?

KV Element isn't just a wrapper. This is a chainer. Try to connect MIDI in and out and audio out.

I just realized something (a kind of a *duh* moment of sorts): at least for my purpose of trying to stave off having to retire my older "VST2.4 only" plugins, Plugin Guru's Unify will accept VST2.4 plugins within the VST3 format of the plugin. This would seem to get around whatever final date will be in place regarding Cubase's rejection of the 2.4 format. The real reason for Unify, of course, is to promote layering of different sounds from several plugins at one time within a single interface, but there is no reason not to use it as a de facto wrapper as the only thing that the DAW "sees" is the one Unify VST3 plugin.

This is an interesting idea.
I know Carla can get VST3's into the Linux's LMMS.
Is there a way to use Carla in MS Windows programs?

Yeah, just download the Windows binary from the releases page. Carla can work standalone or as a host plugin in your DAW.

Thanks for the help. After all that, I managed to get Elements working!
