Yeah, I also use the left hand for snares too, especially for left and right stick snare playing between the center and edge hit.

There's a new extended map that I am doing in Studiophonik that has ANOTHER center and edge and octave down and ANOTHER set of edge and bell for ride an octave up from those as well. This adds some more realism and varation available to you. Then there are a few extra things like cymbal chokes, foot opening on the hat and some other misc performance stuff like swells etc. So, I might even play some early Studiophonik drums at this gig. We'll see. I am still not sure yet. It could either be really cool or really sloppy. If there was a lot of time to rehearse then we could work up something wicked. I like the idea of the drum duet on keys actually because Larry can play from the keys pretty darn good. Actually, it's possible that he blows me away at it! Can you imagine? Here I practice all the time and get recognition around here for keyboard drumming and I go on stage just to get blown away at it? That and then of course Ricky Lawson on a real kit... a little "reality check"? (ie. Squids, you're not THAT good, go back to your piano! :D )

squids,

you mention "a section of video from this little seminar at West LA". i would pay money for any and all of that video. how can i get it?!

i must say that what really pulled me in to SS2 was the demo video. there is nothing like seeing someone at the wheel who knows what they are doing. i'm sure that as these plugins get more and more complex, video demo's will be a given to demonstrate their capabilities.

Post

squids,

i'll be at namm on thursday only. do you know of any must-see demos or events? soft synth/receptor/digital audio/software developer/keyboardist-oriented booths or clinics ...

Post

Well, there's a lot of cool stuff going on at the IK booth and it is right near most of the good action (Digi, M-Audio, Apple, Ilio etc.). (what am I talking about? Gemini booth has all the GOOD action! )

There are probably a bunch of events but the one we're doing is a free concert with some great musicians. You get the tickets from coming by the booth (while they are available).

Some updates for anyone interested in this show...

I talked to Nick D'Virgilio and he's in too. In fact, it inspired me to call up Stan Cotey from the original Giraffe to see if we can have a sort of reunion (it has been over 10 years since we played the Lamb together). I have this weird idea of how to morph Broadway Melody into Heart of the Sunrise. ;) Small possibility we will do a Spock's Beard tune from their new album (Nick is the lead singer now for that band and drummer).

Pretty cool gig eh? I also got off the phone with Ricky Lawson. Man, this is one BAMF! He played with Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Earth, Wind & Fire among others. These guys are all so excited to play with the IK/SR guys. Can you believe that? I guess what we do makes an impact on musicians. He's excited to play with me? How strange... some kind of alternate universe going on or something. But, I am going to enjoy this! I hope you do too. We're going to have to video this one.

Oh, SoftJunkie, the rest of the video will be available one way or another (even if half of it or more is me babbling away about stuff).

Other guests added to the gig (not in our set- our set is SET! and it's enough. But, in the mega jam thing) there's

Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction)
Mark Anthony
Warren DeMartini
Doug Adito (Puddle of Mudd ???)
Hugo Ferriera (Tantric)

I don't even know who half these people are. But, some of you probably do. Is this one of the oddest line ups you ever saw??? This should be interesting. (yikes :-o )

www.sonikelementz.com - Rob's just beginning the site. At some point there will be some cool features on the site. It's more about music than equipment but both go hand in hand. Just a different angle. The gig info is posted there. Check it out!

Yikes! This will be quite the event Dave. Have fun!

This gig is inside NAMM isn't it? Darn .. if it was outside, I'd be there.

It's not inside NAMM. It's outside at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana. Hey, Mr. Tunes and Jeez are coming to the show to help out on the gig. You should go. It's prog after all! Well, some of it is. I can leave some tickets for you at our hotel lobby. Any of you KVRians who are in southern Cal want to go I will just leave you tickets at my hotel in Anaheim near Disney which is 7 minutes away from venue.

I talked to Nuno Bettincourt today. Nice guy. I am going to sit in with him too on something most likely. Maybe on the continuuum... maybe. I am very close to bailing out on that idea but on the other hand I may do some psychedelic trippy stuff with it. Not sure yet.

Yeah, I knew Beardedone would approve of this gig. Man, I wish we had the whole night now. But, we DO have a NAMM show to do too! ;) (talk about work I have man... hey, we're showing Studiophonik!!!! It's awesome guys! Mixing dry and room mics and all kinds of great sounds... virtual Steely Gordon! )

As we were thinking of possible things to expand the gig so many cool ideas came up. It's amazing how even some of the wackiest ideas to bring some musicians together can happen. We were talking about possibly mixing some old Steely Dan musicians together like Skunk Baxter and Elliot Randall with Ricky Lawson and the other guys to get our Steely Dan fantasy happening. That has to happen at some point because I doubt I'll even get the gig playing with them (a little tough that one) and you know I am a big fan. Ed Green used to live in the guest house of the house I lived in at Eagle Rock with Kevin. Imagine playing "I Got the News" with him! Now I am on this "anything is possible" trip. That's dangerous when you have this concept going: www.sonikelementz.com But, this is kind of like our own personal Rock n Roll fantasy camp (have you guys heard about that one? It's a thing where you can play with Roger Daltrey, Jon Anderson and a bunch of people like that... but it costs some money).

Anyway, I am enjoying the challenge. I am a little nervous but not about the playing, more about all of the things coming together right. It depends on a lot of people doing their best to help and make sure things run smooth... that and no continuums blowing up or anything (bold to bring that thing... only about 25 in the world and who knows what could really happen as I haven't played it live yet!!! Bad gig to start experimenting.)

Mr Tunes - where Mr Tunes?

He's a kick-arse composer and musician. I haven't heard any music from him in over a year. Tell me what you know Squids and don't hold out on me. :D
