$199 is the VCX discount, nothing would change that except for owning the new instruments.

Post

Oh so Pigments, an instrument, isn't counted since it isn't part of the VC? Bummer if true.. I thought Arturia discounted for that one.

No they only give discounts against instruments in the bundle itself. very rarely do they give cross grade offers from other products like Pigments.

Personally after many consecutive years I'm not going for the upgrade: £199 for three Arturia Emulations is way overpriced.

Have plumped for Gforces Imposcar 3 instead which is a sprightly £25 rn.

I've not upgraded since 6 and every time I'm just a bit less excited. I'll probably listen to the Synthex to see if this is the time that I'll go for the $99 upgrade when they roll it out, or, just wait on V12.

Feel free to ignore my take though, I'm a bit over the endless subtle variations of vintage analog emulations. I would consider the next $99 upgrade if, in the meantime, they worked on the 2600 though, so there's that. There's something about playing with semi modular synths in the box that I like, and I like the ARP sequencer.

VC is the big daddy, so owning that gets you decent crossgrade deals.
I own VC7 and they offered me Pigments with the Explorations Bundle for $49, FX5 for the same price, with VCX upgrade being $99.
I paid $75 or so for VC7 and that opened a lot of cheap doors.
I have only added Pigments so far.

Post

Ah ok. I figured Pigments is their 'big daddy' flagship synth, so they'd be generous in discounting their other software off of it.

I have owned V Collection since version 3 and paid for upgrades through version 9. I also own Pigments and FX Collection 3. AND I own a KeyLab Essential 49 mk3, MiniLab 3, and the original MiniLab. Yet my upgrade price for V Collection 11 is $299. And there is no discounted upgrade to FX Collection 5. I would have to pay the full cost of $499. Does that make sense?

Arturia is a business. They are free to run it however they see fit and charge what the market will bear for their products. But part of that profit calculation should be how much their pricing turns off people like me. Arturia seems to think I am the one who needs their products when it is Arturia who needs my business. And they have lost that business by overcharging for underwhelming upgrades. Release something worth $299, and I will buy it.

So many people will just keep upgrading. I'm sure that they think this through and choose the route that nets them the most profit. They make public statements about what they will do and then change their mind, probably when they need a cash infusion. At one point they stated that they will never do a $99 upgrade, and then, it's happened.

I wish them well, but, the more you have, the less time each tool is used.

I've spent about 500 dollars US on having V collection, Pigments and the FX collection. If they didn't support MTS ESP and MPE in most of their stuff I would feel I had spent far too much. It's a bit fun to throw a random synth that you don't really use all the time I to a track to see what you come up with, but I still feel that most of their synths sound relatively similar.

The thing with Pigments is that it has gone on sale for $99 or maybe less many times. I think I paid $99 or so for it many years ago when it was new and version 1. I have been getting massive free upgrades every 12-18 months on that without spending a dime that has added a tremendous amount of new features

So I am not surprised that there is no discount for V Collection with that

I got Pigments for $49 in 2020 and have still never used it.

I got it on v1 or maybe v2 for 99 bucks or less. It's a good synth and worth full price but it's by far the best thing (in my opinion) that arturia makes in it's synth line of products.

For me the best synth they make is the Synclavier V as it has the exact code that Cameron Jones the original programmer wrote for the original synth, then ported over to the C programming language by Cameron Jones and licensed to Arturia

Post

I like the synclavier and the digital synths far more than the "analog" synths they do.

As a package, the Arturia stuff is just a giant stack of stuff, so I'll often grab one pretty much at random when I'm looking for a new sound while writing a song. I do this especially when I'm using a non equal temperament tuning as almost all their stuff supports it.

Yes imo all the digital ones are really nice. The analog ones have been hit or miss.

I really wish Arturia would incorporate more MIDI tools into Analog Lab though. The multi-arp, a chords tools, more modulation slots. And on the Effects side some kind of chainer that could route serial or parallel, frequency based separation of effects, etc.

If they really wanted to get crazy with the cheese whiz, they could let us pick and chose oscillator types, filters, and envelopes from the entire collection. That'd be fun.
