Well, if that’s your thing, no harm in that. I personally tried setting up a small hardware modular system and I hated everything about it. The cables, the seemingly endless variety of modules to buy, etc. I see the allure, it’s just not for me.

Thats pretty cool, thanks for posting. Definitely you can hear a lot of variation that I think would
be difficult with the current field of granular plugins. I was thinking of some of the early stuff
you made when you first got the morphagene as well, before the mimeophon, IIRC it was some really cool sample manipulation where the core sample was still recognizable, but stretched, looped
and overdubbed in interesting ways.

That's kinda what I'm looking for, variable rate sample playback with scrubbing, overdub and
multiple variable grain spawn points, all at the same time, if that makes any sense...
ah, i think i know the ones you mean :tu:
jabberwocky would be one that stands out, lots of glitchy stutters and smearing through some words.
closest i ever got in software was either using an audio clip and slicing/pasting manually, as i would with tape back in the day. or orions sampler, with lots of work and muliple samplers.
would like something as simple as morphagene, but with a longer reel would be nice.
its ok as is for short poems but not everything is done in 4 mins

Arturia' s EFX Fragments, Unfiltered Audio's Silo and Byome. Byome is not strictly a granular plugin, it's a multi-fx with some pretty cool granular effect modules that can be chained to other effects for some really creative results.

If you want to up the ante there is also a three band version called Triad, plus its also built into their semi -modular synth, Lion.

Hi i have most of them and i keep going back to the GRM Tools SpaceGrain, it is very nice :?

Infiltrator. I am barely scratching the surface but it is so much fun.

Infiltrator is fantastic but not what I would really consider granular. The spectral stuff is super interesting.

My goto granular insert fx is Arturia Motions although high CPU makes me use it sparingly. I think Unfiltered Audio's Silo is better but the UI isn't great and I have found it difficult to understand. Motions is a lot simpler.

Yeah, I saw that coming.
What is granular? As I understand granular it is about buffers that are manipulated.
Delay, Tape stop, Stretch, Reverse, Loop, Pitch, etc. is what you can do in Infiltrator.
For me it is a question of the interface how to deal with these "granular" (pun intended) building blocks.
And yes, the FFT/spectral stuff is so cool!

Granular technically speaking is cutting a sample (or signal) into small parts and having the ability to alter each grain's properties. Like pitch, time, envelope, position, length etc.

I think granular has expanded its meaning from what Xenakis first proposed (ie. each grain should be less than 100ms). You can have much larger grains now.

But the basic definition is the reduction of a longer sample or signal into much smaller parts.

Infiltrator doesn't really have a granular effect in that sense.

Imaginando's GRFX is very good.

It's worth watching the walkthrough but the basic concept and design is very good. The USP is the ability to have up to three tuned grain streams for almost arp like effects.

Sample Logic's grainscaper is also very good and its USP is the pathing system that allows you to have up to four different grain streams that can be scrubbed along the buffer independently. Another nice feature is the ability to freeze the buffer and save that as a preset.

Ridgewalk by Aqeel Adam. Not strictly a granular, more of a micro looper but it's awesome.

Dawesome Love. Fragments as well. Couldn't think of needing anything more.

you need GRM tools SpaceGrain, remove the rest now :?

The recent GRFX and Grainscaper effects (and they are effects, not really instruments) are likely safe bets for most folks. Note that Grainscaper uses a 3rd party downloader (pulse) like all their kontakt stuff, which is prob why there is no demo, even though the plugin actually has a demo mode IIRC.

Autochroma is cool and interesting, pretty heavy cpu use for me when I tried it. Keep forgetting about it, so I have never grabbed it. Aqeel Adams stuff is very nice indeed, more stuff I still have to pick up there...
