I have Digitalis, will check BYOME out. Their SpecOp is super cool.bmanic wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 3:45 pmjtsterays wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 11:38 am So I did some more digging and I found exactly the one I need, which is the Ozone's codec preview feature. Using lower bitrate I got the extreme transient smearing which I was after. The 2 formats (MP3, AAC) sound quite different too, especially if you use the delta (solo artifact) which result in some pretty cool "noise drumloop" sounds.![]()
You could probably also explore some FFT based effects, for instance Unfiltered Audio BYOME has some interesting variations available.
Another really cool lo-fi smearing effect is Aberrant DSP Digitalis.
What do you think of DMG equilibrium ?

Have you tried Sloth, the slew rate limiter plugin? It's designed to slow down transients.bmanic wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 3:45 pmjtsterays wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 11:38 am So I did some more digging and I found exactly the one I need, which is the Ozone's codec preview feature. I remember Greg from Kush talking about the same, I think in the context of Omega TWK.
Might be worth checking both out if you haven't already.

Unfortunately there's no demo version for Sloth so I never really bothered with it. I have so many different solutions for dealing with transients that I'm not really in a hurry to add another.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 5:21 pm Have you tried Sloth, the slew rate limiter plugin? Airwindows has a few slew limiters as well, for various tasks but to be fair, I don't find myself using those either.

This is my main EQ, I’m not afraid to admit I’m kind of dogmatic about it. As others have said, FIR, highest impulse response, Free phase with phase points below 1KHz tending to be at the bottom (minimum) and phase points above 1KHz on the middle line (linear) (this was Dave’s starting point suggestion for mastering on Gearspace years ago https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.ph ... ostcount=2), you’ll be in a good space.
Only thing to add that others haven’t mentioned is definitely try the Peaks Parallel instead of Serial. This really opens up the field and lets you get away with whatever you want without it messing up the sound too much, absolutely next level, I use it by default these days. Easily my desert island EQ, and I’m glad it doesn’t come with saturation, historically analog EQs don’t actually have much if any saturation. If you need saturation just use DMG TrackComp 2 after the fact or something.

I think Dave is a genuis and I have a lot of his products... but
The bigger ones are just way too tweaky for me. I don't want endless choices. Personally, I just want the simplest interface. If the sound isn't right, I just try something different. I just need to get work done. So, I end up using Crave or Kirchoff for most digital EQ needs. I kind of think of it like compressors in a way. I have a couple LA-2A's and 1176's (hardware). They get used all the time because they are quick to get a sound. It's either right or wrong. If an 1176 is too aggressive, I will grab the LA-2A.
But it's all personal choice anyway. I think if you are good at mixing, the specific EQ isn't going to matter. You will make it sound good no matter what tools are used.
