Hyperbole wrote: Mon Apr 28, 2025 5:12 am I'm sure Arturia could expose these features in Pigments. But why would they? That would cut into sales of the Jup-8000 V.
I doubt it. The reason to buy such an emulation is mainly nostalgia and collectivism. Sound designers prefer complex synths not available in ancient hardware…
Hobbyists is the real market…
If they included the filters in Pigments it would help the sales of Pigments, which isn‘t part of the V-Collection for a reason…
If I could load Jup-8000 V presets into Pigments, why would I use the Jup-8000 V? Because of the "simplified" interface? Because it looks like a JP8000, and, therefore, I can fool myself into thinking I am using a hardware JP8000?

Pigments is not hard to program. And it is more flexible than the Jup-8000 V, even though Jup-8000 V includes many of the same modulation options via an awkward slide-up panel. For every silly plugin hoarder who likes looking at the software JP8000 interface because they are nostalgic for a time they likely didn't experience, I suspect there would be a lot more people who would say, "Just give me the sounds and keep the more restricted faux JP8000 look and feel."

It sounds quite good, I like it, but I would have preferred an emulated JP-8080 anyway. Besides the GUI would look much cooler, :D I would have appreciated the additional features. No white noise in the OSC2 section, is a little bummer.
Yes, it sounds very good. It brings certain "vibe", or "atmosphere".
When it comes to superstrings, I admit Spire is best. When I first heard it, I thought I don't need JP nor Virus anymore.
But 8000 V complements Spire nicely as secondary VA.

I'm not sure about those soundbanks demos, is it clean JP or some processing is used. I know on Spire, if I want exciting but "tight" superstring, I would use the builtin multiband compressor. Obviously, there is one on 8000 V and it does the same thing.

Same here .
Except if you lowpass it and add some long attack it can work for some padsounds .
Plucked raw supersaw sounds remind me of everything that was horrible in the nineties : glowsticks , trance ,and the song "Freed from desire "

Then they tweaked the envelope a touch and tweaked the "classic" filter from Pigments a bit, or just made a new one that kinds sorta sounds like the one in the JP-8000
What a conspiracy theory. Arturia threads don't disappoint when it comes to silliness.

I heard it runs even deeper than that. Pigments is just a reworked version of their Farfisa plugin! And that's just a reworked version of the original Minimoog V code! Which they straight up reverse engineered from Steinberg's Neon. Yes, you heard that right! JP8000=Pigments=Farfisa=Mini V=Neon. Like Russian nesting dolls!

But seriously, people need to recreate JP factory presets on 8000 V!

Just look at this JP-8000 demo from 15 years ago:

Plugin is pretty close with oscs and filter, but presets do not show that... Almost every preset is EDM/trance. There is not a single brass preset! Check that sound at 6:09 for example, it's awesome. Or 5:07, very interesting.

Using sysex editor, it shouldn't be too difficult to match parameters. 8000 V can do much more than trance :tu:

This is not "silliness." Every synth developer who knows what they are doing strives to develop a plugin development platform to speed development. It's what Steinberg has done with HALion, what Native Instruments has done with Reaktor and Kontakt, and what UVI has done with Falcon. While it may be more obvious when UVI creates a GUI for one of their Falcon-based sample libraries and calls it an "instrument," there is no difference in Arturia exposing only certain Pigments features and selling that as a new standalone instrument.

It makes way more sense, just in terms of codebase maintenance, for Jup-8000 V to be the same as Pigments under the hood.

Claiming they simply reskinned Pigments and tweaked the classic filter is most definitely silly. And what's the evidence? "The supersaw sounds the same to me." That's the level of technical analysis.

I’d have thought we’d have had a bunch of hardware<->software comparison audio or videos by now - I’d quite like to hear for myself how close or far it is, as it’s quite difficult to parse the conflicting reports and opinion posts…

Omg they did it! WOW! 🤯

Unfortunately, in a product launch thread, there tends to be a lot of pricing chat and hardware gatekeeping to wade through.

If they got the supersaw pretty much right in Pigments then they would reuse more or less the same design. But they had to add the other oscillators. I don't know if cross modulation implementations differ particularly.
Supposedly the supersaw exhibited aliasing in the original... have Arturia mimicked that (I haven't noticed)?

What else did they do? If they started from scratch why does it lack the basic features of the original and can't load presets from the original, and has some serious discrepancy in sound from the original

So what are you are saying is that Arturia just sucked and made a product from scratch that doesn't actually emulate the synth they set out to do and in that regard is a total failure

Awesome

The hardware does seem to sound somewhat better, juicier.
