I know the jv-xv is sample based , but it could well be that he had thrown in the mks-20 chipset as a surplus .
Afaik there is no rd- categorie in the og jv -880 , or is there ?
Either way , the samples sound great.

AI Overview below. I was able to connect it but haven't had any luck controlling the plugin (edit -JV-Patched's patch test keyboard is working so there is communication, it's just that the sound isn't changing):

On a Mac, a "virtual MIDI cable" can be created using the built-in IAC Driver within the Audio MIDI Setup application. This allows you to route MIDI data between different applications on the same computer without needing a physical MIDI interface.
Here's how to set it up:
Open Audio MIDI Setup: Go to Applications > Utilities and open Audio MIDI Setup.
Show MIDI Studio: In the Audio MIDI Setup window, go to Window > Show MIDI Studio.
Locate IAC Driver: You'll see the IAC Driver listed in the MIDI Studio window.
Enable IAC Driver: Double-click on the IAC Driver and check the "Device is online" box.
Add Ports: Click the "+" button below the "Ports" section to add virtual MIDI ports.
Name Ports: Rename the ports as needed for easy identification.
Configure in Applications: In your MIDI applications, you can now select these virtual MIDI ports as input and output sources.
Virtual MIDI devices on macOS. Creating virtual midi devices ...
By creating and configuring these virtual MIDI ports, you can effectively route MIDI data between different applications running on your Mac, as if they were connected by a physical cable.

Thanks, but I have a PC. I’ll try ChatGPT and see what I can find out.

I just checked the hardware and didn't see that. The banks are A, B, I (Internal), and there are the optional data cards (C-01 to 64, etc.). I am not seeing seeing RD anything, unless that's found somewhere else in the settings that I'm not as familiar with.

RD-500 is just a stage piano that had the same chip.

Congrats to the developer Giulio Zausa for this amazing project (and all his other / upcoming MAME derived projects).

Just a question : the first patch of the "SR-JV80 : Dance" expansion shows a missing sync after a single key is sustained / pressed for a while (about 10 secs). The LFO-driven bassline goes out of sync to the drum loop. Is it the SAME behavior as found in the original hardware? (it should be indeed, since JV880 has no LFO tempo sync).

Anyone here who can compare to the hardware?

Nope, that's in a separate plugin, RdPiano.

This is just how Roland was naming their patches at the time. "SA" doesn't mean it actually uses SA synthesis in this case, but that it is reminiscent of.

Well . we're not getting any close are we
There is an rd-500 bank in the jv 880 .( which is not the case on the hardware )
The rd-500 bank has presets with prefix S.A ( hinted it's S.A. synthesis ) , does the o.g.rd-500 utilises S.A. synthesis ?
I'm going to shoot the developer an email .

I know that ( ffs  ) , I was just thinking out loud that he could have included that chipset as well IN the jv-880 because....CODE :tu:

You mean, the ROM for the RD-500 (which used the same engine) is in the ROM download, and consequently, can be used by the plugin.

Of course, the JV880 hardware didn't include any ROMs that were not the JV880 rom, although you could purchase and install the SR-JV expansion ROMS.

No. My XV5080 has some of these sounds too. They are just sounds sampled from, modelled on, inspired by, or reminiscent of Roland's earlier generation of popular SA pianos/modules. Just because there are patches called "Jupiter 8 Pad" (or whatever) doesn't mean there's somehow a virtual JP8 in there too.! ;)

(But there may, or may not, be samples from the JP8 - or older Roland pianos - in those ROMs and the patches are using those. But more likely, it's just a name, don't overthink it...)

I have a few of them but not the one I really wanted. Well I do but someone tried to mod it and f**ked it, was hoping i could just resolder it and get working like the others Id snagged

This is one of the best free, or even paid, plugins I've heard. I think this could be a candidate for a future OSC.
