Interesting. Guess we'll learn more at Superbooth.

I've been following the discussions over on GS and it certainly looks intriguing to me, but we'll see how the price and build quality are. Seems like it should be priced around $1K to be competitive, but anything much higher than that will be putting it in the ballpark of 5/6-voice polys, like Artemis, Take 5, and TEO-5. Also, given that it's called "Messenger", I'm guessing that it's based on the Minitaur/Sirin ("Analog Messenger of Joy") synths, which definitely appeals to me.

Poor audio capture aside, it sounds meaty. With the shift in manufacturing, I see no reason why this couldn't be very competitively priced. Perhaps not BS2 competitive though :D

$899 (Sweetwater) / £699 (Andertons)

"This synthesizer has two oscillators with wavefolding functionality, a sub-oscillator with continuously variable waveshapes, dual looping ADSR envelopes, 32 semi-weighted full-size keys with velocity and aftertouch, and the legendary Moog ladder filter augmented with resonance bass compensation, multiple filter slopes, and true multimode functionality"

That’s a good price for the feature set, even if it is a cheaper Chinese build. I don’t need another mono and haven’t even had a chance to listen to the demos yet, but I’m sure they’ll sell these by the boatloads based on the Moog brand/reputation and features.

I must admit that the new Schmoog sounds great.
It gives me hope that we might see a Cheap Schmoog Model D with presets and some other extras in the Near future :tu:

I played it at SB25 today. It feels surprisingly cheap for a Moog and the lack of effects is a bit disheartening. But these basses are PHAT! And that filter can sound super nasty. I wouldn't tour with it, I wouldn't make it my main machine (like a Minilogue could be or a Muse), but versatile, super massive bass sounds and piercing analog leads for your studio, this is as good as it gets.

Wow they finally fixed the ladder filter :)

I figured that would be the case (pun intended). Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the point in putting a cheap and flimsy keyboard on a synth - just make it a module with a USB host port and be done with it. It keeps the cost down, the footprint smaller, and people can use whatever keyboard controller they have. But, I'm also not in the target market for this synth.

Reviews from the usual suspects have been dropping today.

Take 5 and TEO-5 are about to go up $1,850 each. :-/

I'm not judging based on sound or build quality -- I haven't watched any of the videos. But on the feature set it seems comparable to the Minibrute 2... which has 48 patch points instead of 6 and costs about half as much. (The one I bought used was $250 if I remember right...!) Obviously the sound character will be different, but eh.

I picked up a Moog Messenger today. It wasn't love at first playing, like it was with the TEO-5 I got.
But in just a few hours toying with it, it's really starting to grow on me.
Of course, it will take a while to fully explore it, but so far I can say I'm happy (but not ecstatic) about getting it.
With Messenger and Mariana, it's 'Moog' enough for me.
I've always been more of an Oberheim guy anyways.

Yea, I am waiting for a TEO-10!
